2. What is the Florida State Assessment?
The *NEW* Florida State Standards call for a new assessment.
The FSA will show whether or not a student is mastering the new standards.
State Standardized Test for ELA and Math
3rd grade reading—Paper Based
4th and 5th grade reading—Computer Based
3rd-5th grade math—Computer Based
4th grade writing—Paper Based
5th grade Science—Paper Based
Students are no longer taking the FCAT.

8. 4th and 5th Grade Writing FSA will be February 27th
Students must read and understand the prompt
Read the 2-3 sources given to them
Identify if they want the students to inform the reader or share their opinion
Write a 5 paragraph essay in which the prompt was addressed at all times
Points are deducted when the students write off- topic
Work on Grammar conventions (punctuation, capital letters, etc.)

14. 5th Grade Science
The Statewide Science Assessment measures student achievement of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in science.
Students in grades 5 and 8 participate in the statewide science assessment. Achievement Levels for Science were established in through a standard-setting process.
This assessment is also computer based.

21. How can I prepare my child for the FSA?
Use Technology (Reading Plus/Waggle)
Time all home learning assignments
Ask your child questions.
Make sure your child is using TEXT EVIDENCE.
Review multiplication and division tables.
-Reading and comprehension questions can be in English OR Spanish.
Use technology to help reinforce skills being taught in the classroom.
Read with your child EVERY night, at least min.
Use the FSA Task cards to ask them questions about what is being read.
Ask your child questions about what he or she is learning in class.
Make sure you child is going back into the text to answer reading comprehension questions.
Review the TIMES TABLES and DIVISION TABLES daily. You can practice in the car, at breakfast, at the store.
