4 Definition – Discipling is helping another follow Jesus.
REVIEW Definition – Discipling is helping another follow Jesus. The only prerequisite? (You can’t lead someone somewhere you have never been!) The “attitude” we must possess? The beautiful attitudes of Matthew 5:3-12! (the beatitudes) The three-fold process of discipling: Get it! Live it! Give it away! You must BE a disciple.

5 Get it! Live it! Give it away!
Matthew 28:16-20

8 Five! Last Sunday - The One Prerequisite for Discipling Another
Today - The Three-Fold Foundational Process of Discipling Next Sunday - Three Powerful God-given Resources for Discipling Five!

9 Five Powerful God-Given Resources for Discipling
Matthew 28:16  Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. Matthew 28:10 Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”

10 Five Powerful God-Given Resources for Discipling
Resource #1 – Jesus gives us his pardon (to be enjoyed!) Matthew 28:17 And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted.  Even in their “little faith” (all possessed some faith for they had all made the trek of 70 miles from Jerusalem to Galilee), Jesus accepted them fully as his brothers!

11 (Douglas Sean O'Donnell – Preaching the Word Commentary on Matthew)
Five Powerful God-Given Resources for Discipling “God loves imperfect people into his perfect kingdom, and God uses imperfect people for his perfect plans. He uses bipolar disciples – (don't we all go back-and-forth from worship to doubt?) to make the world whole again. It's just lovely isn't it?” (Douglas Sean O'Donnell – Preaching the Word Commentary on Matthew)

12 Five Powerful God-Given Resources for Discipling
Resource #1 – Jesus gives us his pardon (to be enjoyed!) Resource #2 – Jesus gives us his power (to be relied upon!) Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

13 Jesus gives us his power (to be relied upon!)
Ephesians 1:20-22 That he (God) worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

14 Jesus gives us his power (to be relied upon!)
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

15 Five Powerful God-Given Resources for Discipling
Resource #1 – Jesus gives us his pardon (to be enjoyed!) Resource #2 – Jesus gives us his power (to be relied upon!) Resource #3 – Jesus gives us his plan (to be followed!)

16 Jesus gives us his plan (to be followed!)
Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them . . .

17 Jesus gives us his plan (to be followed!)
“Baptism gives more of an edge to the commitment they are supposedly making, the kind of edge I think God intended. Baptism makes one think twice about the giving of one’s whole body, one’s whole self, to Christ. Baptism makes one think twice about diving into this new religion and into this new relationship. Don’t undervalue what God has ordained!” (Douglas Sean O'Donnell – Preaching the Word Commentary on Matthew)
