2 Timeline eGP in Latin America and the Caribbean
First wave : information portals and minor interactive features. Second wave : interactive functionalities (supplier registries and e-tendering) and first transactional systems. Third wave 2015-present: large scale implementations, business intelligence, e-market place and infrastructure beyond in-house IT departments (government data centers, cloud based solutions).

A major factor in the development of eGP systems has been the institutional set up adopted by the countries in Latin America and more recently in the Caribbean. 11 Challenges ahead How to continue developing eGP with a balanced perspective between control, efficiency and support to public policy. How to phase out legacy systems and contain excessive growth of IT departments. How to properly plan resources to upgrade/update COTS solutions. How to develop eGP as a means for procurement reform and not an end unto itself.
