3. Why is irrigation important
Irrigation is important because rainfall varies greatly from one season to the next.
Irrigation water is obtained from:
Rivers and streams
Lakes
Wells and artesian bores
Dams
Town water supply
Each of these sources has its disadvantages

4. On order to not waste water, farmers need to keep a water budget so they know when to apply.
This means they generally have water sensors in the ground that let them know the exact amount of water present in the ground.
They also record the amount of rain that falls and the amount of evaporation and transpiration that is happening.
