1 IMDS Steering committee address
CLEPA materials regulation event 2017 Matthew Griffin Materials Engineering 17 May 2017

2 Why do we use IMDS? Compliance to regulations
ELV, REACH, EU POPs, Canada CEPA, Korean, Japan, US material regulations. So the OEM can be compliant and sell vehicles and parts in the required markets So Suppliers can sell compliant parts to the OEM External authorities audit parts – starts with IMDS data, then analysis to back up results.

3 Why is it important to keep IMDS information up to date?
Legal Compliance Addition of substances on GADSL must be reflected in IMDS If you (or your Supplier) use Candidate List substances that are not in your data sheet, these must be updated. This information must be passed up the supply chain to the end customer / OEM. Application Code information must be updated and passed up the supply chain, where the new information is required for Type Approval. What about change management requirements in IMDS? – I do not need to update old data! WRONG – Our legal requirements take precedent! We must have confidence that the products we sell meet our legal requirements.

4 THE WHEN DO I NEED TO UPDATE IMDS? GADSL substances change
Application change / or you have received a request from the OEM You have received an updated MDS from your supplier THE It is essential that information from the material producers is passed up the supply chain to the OEM. You will only know if there has been a change to GADSL substances if you pass on the latest MDS you have.

5 Tools to keep information up to date
“Allow Faster Update” Release 9 enhancement Chemistry Manager – Release 11 enhancement Application code (13 & 16) deactivation – June 2017 Allow faster updates. If you create (or receive) a new version of a datasheet, IMDS will prompt you to replace the older versions of the datasheet with the newest version and also identify recipients for you to send that data on to. It makes keeping up to date easier. Please use it! Chemistry Manager. Allows communication direct from MMDS Supplier to OEM, with information visible to entire supply chain who use this material. Information visible “Instantly” (in IMDS terms!) By passes the need for updates to MMDS / MDS and communication up the supply chain Removes the need for OEMs to contact all Tier 1, who contact all Tier 2, etc, etc. Application code deactivation: The generic applications “Lead in solder” “Lead in Ceramics” Are currently “Hidden”. Their status will be changed to “Deactivated” on June 1st. This will mean that if you use an MDS with the deactivated application code, you will receive a warning. Unless You own the MDS, in which case, you will receive an error and will need to update the information before you can send it to your customer.

6 CHEMISTRY MANAGER UPDATE
11,000 requests (April 2017) 3,000 closed / 8,000 open Suppliers entering Regulatory Information before request PLEASE ENTER REGULATORY INFORMATION WHEN REQUESTED Chemistry Manager 11,000 requests (April 2017) 3,000 closed / 8,000 open Suppliers entering Regulatory Information before request PLEASE ENTER REGULATORY INFORMATION WHEN REQUESTED

7 WHAT NEXT IN IMDS? No IMDS release planned in 2017
Currently gathering requests from Supplier Organisations Enhancement request deadline is May 18th, 2017 Enhancements for next release identified by June 29th, 2017

8 Imds release process f

9 Imds release process f

10 Release 12 enhancements Chemistry Manager Enhancements a priority
Reduce the number of requests that are not required Received some good input from CLEPA

11 To Sum up If you receive an updated MDS, please update your information and pass it on to your customers Please provide Chemistry Manager Regulatory Information if requested Please work with your supplier organisations to bring issues / enhancement requests to our attention
