World War II Propaganda

Women During the war, many women wanted to do something for their country. Many women enrolled in the army to become a nurse.

Women wanted to feel needed during the war just as much as the soldiers.
Over 400,000 women accepted the challenge and became nurses and served in uniform.

Motivation There were many propaganda posters motivating people to join the army and support the country.

By making the posters say something good, people would look at them.
They made the army look good in order for you to join, but once people joined, there was no way out. The army wanted as many people to join, so when you make something look good, people are going to want to try it and see what is so good about it.

Keep Quiet The army didn’t want anyone talking about the information in the war because they didn’t want anyone to know what was really going on. They didn’t want people to leak any secrets we had and tell Germany.

Silence is golden! If someone were to talk about any information regarding the war, Germany could very easily find out and do something to the country before we do something to them.

Bonds War bonds were seen as a way to regulate the economy while the war was going on. It would help reduce price increases.

The government would take your money to support the soldiers fighting in the war. At first, bonds were known as Defense Bonds. After the Japanese people attacked Pearl Harbor, it was changed to War Bonds.

Recruitment The army made recruiting posters to make people think that joining the army was an awesome thing. They would make people believe that joining the army would make you a better person.

Helping your country during the war and becoming a soldier, was really the only thing you could really do. During the war, people aren’t going to be doing normal everyday things. Unless you were a woman and became a nurse, the routine was that the women would stay home and run the house and watch the children while the men went to war.
