Entropy of T2-weighted Imaging Combined with Apparent Diffusion Coefficient in Prediction of Uterine Leiomyoma Volume Response after Uterine Artery Embolization  Meng-Qiu Cao, MD, Shi-Teng Suo, ME, Xue-Bin Zhang, MD, Yi-Cun Zhong, MD, Zhi-Guo Zhuang, MD, Jie-Jun Cheng, MD, Jia-Chang Chi, MD, Jian-Rong Xu, MD, PhD  Academic Radiology  Volume 21, Issue 4, Pages (April 2014) DOI: /j.acra Copyright © 2014 AUR Terms and Conditions

Figure 1 Representative pelvic images of a 41-year-old woman with uterine leiomyoma before (a–c) and after (d,e) UAE. The leiomyoma before UAE with the maximum diameter shown in axial T2-weighted image slice (a) has a volume of 347,089 mm3 on the three-dimensional volumetric map (b). ADC values and entropy obtained from ADC maps (c) and T2-weighted images (a) were 1.18 × 10−3 mm2/s and 5.52, respectively. After a 6-month follow-up, axial T2-weighted image slice with the maximum diameter (D) of the leiomyoma is shown on (d), and the leiomyoma volume has reduced to 174,810 mm3 (e). ADC, apparent diffusion coefficient; UAE, uterine artery embolization. Academic Radiology  , DOI: ( /j.acra ) Copyright © 2014 AUR Terms and Conditions

Figure 2 Scatter plot with ADC (x-axis, mm2/s) versus leiomyoma volume reduction (y-axis) including the solid regression line (r = 0.61, P = .012). The dashed curves represent a confidence interval for the regression line. ADC, apparent diffusion coefficient. Academic Radiology  , DOI: ( /j.acra ) Copyright © 2014 AUR Terms and Conditions

Figure 3 Scatter plot with entropy of T2-weighted imaging (x-axis) versus leiomyoma volume reduction (y-axis) including the solid regression line (r = 0.73, P = .001). The dashed curves represent a confidence interval for the regression line. Academic Radiology  , DOI: ( /j.acra ) Copyright © 2014 AUR Terms and Conditions

Figure 4 Graph shows receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves to assess the use of ADC, entropy, and the combination of ADC and entropy, respectively, for discrimination of leiomyomas with volume reduction of ≥50% and those with volume reduction of <50% after UAE. AUCs for ADC, entropy, and the combination of ADC and entropy are 0.69, 0.82, and 0.86, respectively. ADC, apparent diffusion coefficient; AUC, area under the ROC curve; UAE, uterine artery embolization. Academic Radiology  , DOI: ( /j.acra ) Copyright © 2014 AUR Terms and Conditions
