2 About me….. Certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA and a Level 1 Sports Performance Coach with USA Weightlifting. Teach and Coach at the High School (2012-today) Sgt. in the Marines ( ) Founding member of UTSA Roadrunner Powerlifting (2001). Have competed in numerous lifting and running events from high school through college. Currently loves to participate in the Spartan Races

3 WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THIS COURSE
I WILL NOT KILL YOU! WE WILL HAVE FUN AND LEARN A LOT FROM EACHOTHER. COME EACH DAY WITH A GREAT ATTITUDE.

4 Grading Attendance 10% (yes I will be checking for this) Labs 10%
Quizzes % Tests % Notebook 30%

5 Chapter Labs Each Chapter will have an associated lab taken directly from the book. ISBN-13: ISBN-10: These labs will be graded and submitted through canvas.

6 Quizzes and Test There will be one quiz for each chapter in book (chapters1-14). Quizzes for that week will open on the Monday at 8:00am, of their assigned week and close Sunday at 11:59pm of that week. There will be 3 exams: 2 midterms and a final.(see schedule)

7 Workout Notebook Notebook Requirements:
3-ring binder (at least 1 inch) Must have 4 tab dividers clearly labeled with the tab subjects underlined below Must include a typewritten cover page listing student name, class, and instructor name

8 Workout Notebook The Notebook is worth a total of 400 points and counts as 30% of your overall grade. All parts of the notebook must be completed for credit. The notebook should be broken down into the following sections: Work-out Journal Fitness Checkpoints Group Activity Chapter Labs

9 Work-out Journal Days (WOJ #1-3 see schedule)
These will be instructor led workout days. Be sure to bring a workout journal form on these days. THEY MUST BE FULLY COMPLETED AT CLASS WITH MY SIGNATURE. Be well hydrated on these days and be prepare to workout and have fun.

10 Fitness Checkpoints (4 check points)
Fitness Checkpoints will be created using the Tanita machine or other devices located at the Health and Wellness Center. Checkpoints will need to be completed near (see schedule) the last week of each month in the fitness center.

11 Group Activity (first group activity is the week of Feb 8-12)
We will divide into 4 groups (come up with team names) On scheduled days (see schedule) a group will set-up and instruct a fitness or workout session. Will be graded by instructor and other students. Plan accordingly and get with me for anything you may need. All group members must be present on their scheduled day to present. Must fill out Grading Rubric and Group Activity Journal form.

12 Resistance Demo (During the week of Feb 15-19)
Students will be assigned resistance exercises to demonstrate to the class. (we may be in small groups depending on class size) Walk through on the equipment used and any safety issues that may be present. Talk about the muscle(s) worked Describe any alternate methods or equipment that may be used.
