1 Third Grade Gear Into Learning

2 Mrs. Bingham • I have two degrees. One degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood, and another one in Psychology. • I have been teaching for 20 years. • I am ESL endorsed, and I am close to having my technology endorsement. • I put many hours outside of the classroom taking additional classes to keep up with changes.

3 Student Expectations • Listening and following directions quickly.
• Raising my hand, and not yelling out. • Staying in my seat, and not disturbing others. • Treating others with respect (no put downs) • Following school rules • Turning in my homework each week.

4 PARENT GOALS • I will help my child practice weekly spelling words, and memorize multiplication facts. • I will sign my child’s weekly reading sheet. • I will check my s. • I will be aware how my child is doing in school • I will encourage my child to be responsible. • I will encourage my child to be kind and include others.

5 Rewards/Consequences
• The students will earn U-Cans/nickels by: Exceptional behavior, turning in homework on time, being to class on time, passing off times tables. • Students will be able to buy class items with their tickets (Ucans) that they earn. • Bison tickets will be issued, and recess may be taken away, if your child fails to follow the rules 3 times or more in a day.

6 Homework • I give homework to reinforce what we are learning in the classroom, and to develop responsibility. • Homework will be passed out on Monday, and will be due back on Friday. Students will earn UCans for having their homework turned in on time. • Homework will consist of a fluency page, math sheets, and spelling words. The spelling sheet can be used to study however needed. • Keyboarding homework will be assigned during 1st term.

7 Reading • Students will be expected to read a minimum of 60 min per week (15min/night). The reading sheet will be due back Friday. • Students will be able to check one book to read at home, and one book that they will need to keep at school. •The reading program we use is McGraw-Hill “Wonders”. They can login the story that we are reading online. • RAZ Reading groups

8 Mathematics • Have your child start immediately practicing memorizing their times tables at home. He/she should be able to recall the answers quickly without hesitating. •ST math will be used to reinforce the math skills we are learning. This will be done at school, but can be done at home as well. They will progress at their own level.

9 Science Topics that we will be learning about this year are: Moon
Force & Motion Simple Machines Living/Non Heat/Light Habitat Project (research report)

10 Events/Birthdays • Habitat Fair (around March) • Economics Fair (end of the year) • Field trips to IMAX, Natural History Museum, Utah Science House • Parties: Halloween, Christmas, Valentines You are welcome to send a treat for your child’s birthday. We celebrate the birthday at the end of the day.

11 Headphones/ Computer Use Agreement
• You will need to go into MYDSD and log in as a parent. You will need to sign the form electronically. • Each student will sign the same agreement, but will do this at school. • Be sure to update your child’s emergency release form in the office if it is not current. Your child will need to have head phones to use in our labs. Please send headphones labeled clearly with your child’s name.

13 Attendance/Tardies • Please send your child to school on time. Students earn tickets everyday he/she is on time. • When a child is absent, work will be sent home after they return. It is expected to be made up, and returned within a week. If this isn’t possible, please so we can work out a plan.

14 PTA/Volunteers Please sign up for PTA. You can pay the dues which help support school activities. I will be using classroom volunteers on Friday mornings. This is the day I plan on kids doing rotations. Please sign up on the PTA sheet to help out as needed, and classroom volunteering.

15 Supplies •Your child does not need to bring any items to school, however, it would be beneficial to have extra of the following items if possible. Several extra pencils 2 thin expo markers & a rag or eraser Small pencil box Extra glue stick 1 inch binder that will stay in the classroom Headphones for your child to use in our lab, and classroom.

16 Donations There is a donation tree in our classroom. I will put items that we need on it. Items that may be on it are usually: ziplock baggies (quart size), glue sticks, tissues, cleaning wipes.
