2 You will need: Class Binder Pen/Pencil Paper Copy of Macbeth Monday, May 1, 2017 Do Now: In the following scenes, we see the rebel groups rising up against Macbeth trying to take him down. Who are you rooting for at this point in the play and why?

3 Today’s Objective I will be able to… analyze how complex characters develop over the course of Macbeth, interact with other characters, and advance the plot or develop the theme.

4 Act 5.2-4 Summary What do you notice? What do you wonder?
Malcolm, Macduff, and English army approach Macbeth’s castle, ready to attack their horrible ruler. Macbeth strides into the hall of his castle, Dunsinane with the doctor and his attendants, bragging that he has nothing to fear from the English army or from Malcolm, since “none of woman born” can harm him and since he will rule securely “[t]ill Birnam Wood remove to Dunsinane.” In the country near Birnam Wood, Malcolm and the English lord Siward know that Macbeth plans to defend the castle, so they decide that each soldier should cut down a branch from the forest and carry it in front of him as they march to the castle, thereby disguising how many soldiers they have. What do you notice? What do you wonder?
