Presentation on theme: "Maths in Work Poster Competition 2017"— Presentation transcript:

1 Maths in Work Poster Competition 2017
People don’t always realise how many careers require the use of maths! In our new competition we want you to make a poster aimed at showing teenagers how maths is used by today’s workforce.

2 We want your posters to be eye catching and informative and to focus on one use of maths, rather than listing lots of different uses. We think this will have more impact!

3 We will give you some suggestions to help get you started.
However you should also try researching your own topic as it could make your poster stand out more to the judges. (You can still win by using one of our suggestions – your poster will just need to be top quality!)

5 Maths in Work Poster Competition Rules
Your poster should focus on one career where maths is used considerably. This use of maths can be almost anything as long as you explain it well. Your poster should be aimed at showing a teenage audience that maths is useful in the workplace. It sounds obvious, but your poster should be a poster – i.e. it doesn’t need to contain lots and lots of words, it needs to be visually eye catching and should give out a strong message. You can draw your poster by hand; use a computer; or a mixture of both. Your poster must be A4 size.

6 Judging and Prizes There will be three categories for judging: Years 7 and 8; Years 9, 10 and 11; Years 12 and 13 The winning posters from students in each category will receive an Android tablet. There will also be five ‘highly commended’ certificates awarded in each group. All winning and highly commended posters will be on display on the Maths Careers website.

7 Closing Date The closing date is 9th June 2017 Winners will be announced on at the end of June 2017 and at the IMA Festival of Maths: Greenwich Maths Time on 27th June 2017

8 Example posters To get you started please take a look at the following posters. Try not to copy them, they are just a few ideas to fire up your imagination. In fact we hope you can do much better and be much more creative!
