Create an area for environmental education in Kitts Green

2 Mini-Eden Project Kitts Green
A community led venture, supported by the carbon trust with many aims: Creating an eco- friendly facility promoting sustainable solutions to environmental problems energy saving projects to reduce Kitts Greens carbon footprint promotion of traditional wood working crafts establishment of a tree nursery and a fruit orchard growing of organic vegetables, bedding plants and herbs Creating an environmental learning centre for visiting groups of local school children, some of whom have exclusion issues & supporting people with a range of learning difficulties Providing training opportunities in practical skills e.g. horticulture, to help unemployed people gain skills in order to get jobs. Establishing a centre for community outreach work, e.g. working with the wider community to promote understanding of environmental issues, e.g. energy saving

If you decide to get involved with this challenge you could be enhancing this site by: Creating a herb garden Planting up a fruit orchard Installing eco-friendly roof insulation Lining a polytunnel

6 Preparation and training
The challenge will be hosted by CSV Environment who will go through Health & Safety and Risk Assessment with all volunteers They will provide training and tools Lunch will be provided by the Bangladeshi Women’s Resource Centre caterers There will be shelter, toilet facilities & first aid kits on site Transport will be provided to and from campus

7 Volunteering Leave This opportunity is part of the Staff Volunteering Scheme. which offers: University supported volunteering accessible to all staff Two days paid volunteering leave per year Up to two additional days paid leave if matched by staff’s own annual leave contribution Volunteer opportunities with local and national organisations Community involvement Staff able to contribute to development of the scheme
