1 Welcome to the ECASD Orchestra Program
Rosie Moua South and Delong Soma Pierce-Smit Memorial Jacob Puccio Northstar and North

2 Tonight we will: Demonstrate the violin, viola, cello, and bass.
Talk about renting/purchasing instruments. Talk about summer lessons. Measure students for instrument size. Answer questions.

3 Violin Smallest size. Highest pitch.
Often featured in high, fast and flashy music. Many needed to play loud and fast and also to be a foundation for the orchestra. At least 50% of orchestra. It is the biggest section of the orchestra.

4 Viola Small size similar to violin. Deeper sound.
Good for students who like lower tones but are unable to transport a cello or bass. “Golden Voice” of the orchestra. No more than 25% of orchestra.

5 Cello Larger size. Requires a lot of space both at home and in the car. Played sitting down. The sound is warm and mellow. More expensive. Rent an instrument for home. There will be a school instrument for you during the school day. No more than 25% of orchestra.

6 Bass Very large. Lowest sound, is heard through all other instruments.
Smallest section but most important. Requires a commitment to transport school basses. Requires more responsible planning for practice time. Limited instruments. Start on cello.  Need 2-3 bass players per school.

7 Harp Need private lessons. Very few harps!
