8 Start with an image editing program
Convert or save scans or images to a TIFF File, DPI, no compression. Try and remove as much foxing, discoloration, etc. from the scan. It helps to save them as a black and white (or grayscale) image. You may have to go back and redo the editing process. For instance, you may get better results if you use something like a “sharpen” filter in Photoshop.
