3. Why are levels of natural increase so high in some countries?
High birth rate and falling death rate due to improvement in basic healthcare e.g. vaccinations
Birthrates remain high due to lack of family planning;
- poor levels of education, especially women
- cultural tradition for large families still common
- children seen as financial asset to help with family business and look after parents in old age
- can’t afford or unaware of birth control (contraception)
