2 GIS Geographic information system – information system based on geography location related data (geodata,  spatial data) GIS applications examples: Property cadastre – Development plan –

3 GIS The most common representation of geodata are vector based data. Vector geodata are composed of description of geoobjects (features). Geoobject (feature) is defined by: Spatial description (shape, location, topology) Non-spatial description (so called attributes, properties) Geoobjects (features) are represented as: points lines polygons

4 CAD x GIS Object is defined by: Object is defined by: CAD GIS Shape
Location (Drawing style) Object is defined by: Shape Location Attributes

5 GIS – analyses What is at selected spot? How accessible is my school?
How many people are touched by high noise? How many bus stops are in the district? What is visible from the new tower? ...

6 GIS – feature classes, layers
Geodata are stored as „feature classes“ (layers) Various data models: Vector Raster 3D TIN Point clouds, … Data are stored in Geodatabases

7 Vector x Rasetr Bitmap and vector graphics in sketches: comparison
