THE FUTURE OF OFFICE SPACE SECURITY Corporations and businesses – large and small – (such as GT, Canon) are looking to use technology in a way that makes office safer. They’re looking for technology that makes their offices and the people that manage them (YOU! At IFMA members) smarter, and looking to kastle’s technology to offer better user experiences to their employees and visitors. In fact, Right now, there are over 2,000 companies across the US that are all looking to Kastle for the future of office security systems, safer smarter and more convenient for their employees. What we’re sharing today are the ideas they’re thinking about, the edge they’re looking for, and really how spaces are becoming more personalized to their occupants, while growing in security. That encapsulates what we’re looking to do, but first please allow me introduce Kastle Systems. Brought to you by Kastle Systems | |

2 Kastle has been serving thousands of companies to help secure their facilities during its 45-years of history. Fairly unique to the industry, from its inception, Kastle has been providing a fully managed security services – like Dropbox is to digital storage needs or AWS to hosting & computing needs. The physical security industry is evolving. And Kastle is taking an active part in the industry’s dramatic technology make-over. What’s available and what you can do today is dramatically different – and better – than just a few years ago. Let the physical security experts manage your physical security – fully managed services.

3 As Technology Evolves…
You’ve already been benefiting from the impact of technology in almost everything that you do at home and work.

4 …. So will the Office Space Security
IoT Is Enabling The Smart Office This is a sort of “no, duh” moment for you. In fact, one Gartner’s report estimates 50 Billion connected things by 2020, you are probably already visualizing how technology is integrating different systems – like your mobile phone to video system to copier machine to HVAC thermostat, etc. – for a safer, smarter and more convenient office. Please allow me to get in to more specific to this reality that is here and evolving.

5 The Cloud Changed The Game
It Changed How We Connect, Understand, Control and Secure Offices Green. Reduced onsite infrastructure and expense Flexible. New capabilities can be pushed to your devices. Increased capabilities. Small companies, along with large ones can leverage enterprise applications. Enhanced collaboration. Easy to interact and share. Cost predictability. Flat price avoiding unforeseen software updates, maintenance charges. Consumer friendly. Extend to smart devices to enable improvements all the way to end users. And what changed it really, for us, is how and how easily we can connect, what we understand, control at our fingerprints, away from our desks. Example: Uber – before you’re standing in the rain or calling a cab that could get hailed. Now it’s personalized, you connect with the person, don’t even take out cash, credit card, or even calculating a tip. It’s not just slightly better – but with a little configuration beforehand, the entire process and experience is vastly improved. Cloud enablement made everything better, enabled new better capabilities In your personal life, a lot of this is already taken for granted, like that Uber experience. Uber is at my fingertips. It knows who I am. I see what I need to see. And the entire end-to-end process is seamless and well-supported. Security today is at my fingertips. It knows who I am. I see and control what I need. The end-to-end, again, is seamless and well-supported today. In our own systems, a service person or engineer in our security center can trouble shoot any system anywhere; and can instantly see details for one out millions of users. New connections from the person to the system and what they can do is a world of difference. So what does this mean for property, facility, and office managers like you? Let’s talk about the technologies that are enabling that security experience in the office of the future.

6 The Future of Office Space Security: Is Mobile
RFID to Digital Credentials RFID to Digital Credentials Smart Phones are the new Key Offers More Dynamic Security Adds New Features for End Users, and A New Level of Convenience Makes Systems easy to manage from anywhere, anytime To share some of the glimpses of the immediate future of office space security. Going from the old way to the new mobile era. The phone is the new key – for the past decade, there have been more mobile phones than people in the world. What does this look like? Let me use myself as an example: When I drove into the office this morning, the parking gate opened for me without stopping to roll down my window. I was holding my coffee and speaker notes for this webinar, and was able to walk right through the secured door without fishing for a card, since it automatically unlocked for me. It was great! Another user example – a facility administrator of a fortune 100 customer a couple weeks ago, had to lock down a building across town. Before they’d have to drive there and get through the crowd, but since they implemented our smart system, they could do it from their phone. What does that really do for you? Hands-free convenience, leave everything in your pocket Safer – less lost keys, more encryption. Personal panic in your pocket extends additional security from the perimeter of the building to each person in your office. The phone is central to the future of office security. One credential – your phone – throw out every key.

7 The Future of Office Space Security: Is Visual
Analog to Digital Technology Analog to Digital Technology View from Anywhere Makes Cameras smart @ cheaper cost Makes video searchable like Google Goes beyond better security, to such as space utilization analytics Of all security today, this is the fastest growing area. Cameras are cheaper (1/5th the cost), and turning from dumb sensors to smart sensors with analytics. We have a customer, for instance, that has 89 cameras throughout 300,000 square feet, and they use it to count people and understand how their space is used. It used to cost a fortune and IT support with robust infrastructure that rode on the back of an intranet, with static IP DVR’s and cameras. Today, all we need is cloud connectivity, and it’s much more robust and massive infrastructure that lets us tie all the data together dynamically at any time, any where. Now, for instance, I can look at my office from across town. Or if someone is outside my office when they shouldn’t be, my video system understands that and sends me a live alert so I can see and deal with it as needed.

8 Manual Or Premise Records to Automated Systems
The Future of Office Space Security: Is Frictionless Manual Or Premise Records to Automated Systems Seamless processes Speeds processes like faster visitor check-in Notifies you when you need to know, what you need to know User experience: dynamic visitor management. Instead of manually figuring out who visited when, I can ask questions like “when was the last time Brian Jones visited” or “who are my most frequent visitors, and who are they visiting?” The process itself is better too – before you’d coordinate with the building, visitors would wait in line while each was manually processed. Today, the visitors can be pre-processed via outlook , and visitors receive barcodes so checking in is streamlined and a better, faster experience. In addition to a phone call, hosts can be automatically notified when guests arrive. The guest passes are flexible and access can expire sooner, rather than being stuck with rigid 24-hour scheduled access. Better security, and a better experience.

9 Manual Or Premise Records to Intelligent Cloud Systems
The Future of Office Space Security: Is Data Driven Manual Or Premise Records to Intelligent Cloud Systems Automates processes Provides actionable insights Provides timely information to you Data can be leveraged by other systems Nikhil: Today, Data is an ingredient for better understanding. There’s always been gluttony of data collected. But how it is pulled together and reported is what really matters to you, so you can actually use it! Insights and information drive better actions, leading to a safer and more efficient operation. Examples - cards and users that haven’t accessed the site, and decide whether they still need it, drilling down to users with multiple credentials, or understanding temporary card usage. An open space office – with lots of visitors versus resident employees – deciding how much of open desks vs. dedicated desks utilization can be based on data reports.

10 The Future of Office Space Security:
Needs to Serve a Tech Savvy Worker More for End Users More for End Users Users expect a safe environment Users expect amenities Users expect on demand services Users are willing to share information that helps you Pitch around productivity gain here. ROI justification. oldest millennial, higher expectations and lower barriers to technology adoption. Taking advantage of this higher participation not only makes the workplace more valuable, but improves productivity and new connection to the workplace. In my own example, regardless of where I am traveling I instantly know what restaurants are nearby and what people think about them, and what they serve. I haven’t asked for directions in years, and I no longer need to remember anyone’s phone number. My mobile phone is really my world, and the world is personalized for me. That’s today’s construct, and the office of the future must adapt accordingly. (See Paul – I told you I was a millennial!).

11 The Future of Office Space Security:
Is Personal Nikhil: In 5 years, you should expect your garage to automatically open for you. Your office should be intelligent enough to know you’re in there, and adapt accordingly to your preference for lighting and comfort. Elevators will be faster and called for you, getting to your desk efficiently. All of this leads to more productive and even more efficient environments – saving you money, delivering an understanding of usage patterns, automatic reporting and streamlined visitor or vendor processing, with better, faster, more convenient controls – making it personalized for both you and your people, and safer, smarter, and more convenient for everyone.

12 Lets take a look at just a few recent threats
Threats Evolve Just as Technology Does Paul Lets take a look at just a few recent threats

13 Unauthorized Access through Cameras
Edge devices can become a vulnerability – Oct DDoS Paul: One of the most recent threats was the IoT attack from October Millions affected. Including some of the most prominent cloud companies today – all because of default passwords in a digital video component.

14 Workplace Violence Understanding who’s in your building, and keeping threats out Nearly 70% of U.S. organizations have insufficient or no programs/ policies to combat workplace violence. For employers who fail to prevent workplace violence, jury awards in liability cases average $3.1 Million per person, per incident Sodexo 2016 Workplace Trends Report Nikhil: whether you consider more or less, whats always true is that understanding who is in your building can help monitor and reduce a potentially large risk to your building or organization.

15 Protect Institutional Information
A physical layer, along with IT, safeguards your valued digital assets 60% of Data Breach is due to people inside the organization 2015 Paul: if someone tries to use a card that they’re not allowed to use multiple times, we understand that now and can share that information on anomalous behavior that you want to get ahead of. IBM Security Report

16 5 Things Everyone Can Do Today to Be Better Off Tomorrow
Update your passwords today to your video system. Do Not use default passwords. Ask your security partner to enable mobile system management today (it should be complimentary). Reduce your vulnerability by closing out unused access credentials. Enable yourself with emergency lockdown capabilities if you haven’t already done so. Request a security audit and plan to determine your needs & what it takes to upgrade your systems over time. Kastle – complimentary audit at your site – in person.

17 The Future of Office Space Security:
Technology Solves Problems for You PAST FUTURE Heavy onsite technology footprint and upkeep Cloud-based infrastructure Additional manual work processes Automated systems Lack of mobility to perform or distribute work Mobile capabilities & controls One-off integrations Standards-based inter-system communications More effort for onsite experts Easier self-service, outsourced support Less convenience for end users Higher amenity levels, personalized experience Lack of data Data translated into actionable insights More security risks than systems today Safer, smarter encrypted systems Nikhil
