My Hearing Loss By: Daniel S Started 7th STRIVE Prep: Lake Campus

2 What Kind of Hearing Loss I Have
Sensory Disability Mild-Moderate Hearing loss Low frequency Letter sounds: z,v,p,h,g,ch Bi-Lateral Right ear “little bit” better. Found out about it in Elementary School

3 Let me explain this to you
An audiogram is where you put the results of your hearing loss.

4 Accommodation (Support)
I have Hearing Aids, but I have decided not to wear them. I get my hearing checked 1 time a year. Monitor for change. I need to sit in the front, OR near where the teacher is “teaching” from. Repeating things that other students say if necessary. Checking for understanding. Gain my attention prior to instruction. Write important information on the board so I can copy it.

5 Everyday… Challenges Outcomes I have to work hard to listen.
Letting people know about my hearing loss is uncomfortable for me. I feel shy and nervous, because I’m worried I’ll be made fun of. I need my accommodations. In my IEP My ToDHH wonders if when I check out in class, it is partially because I need listening break? Educate people about hearing loss.

6 Noise can effect me It can be noisy in halls during transitions, and the lunch room. It can be hard for me to listen/hear. In the classroom: hard floors and big rooms bounce the sound. I sit in the front near the teacher and teacher repeats what other kids say so I don’t miss it. Distance and Noise: If it’s noisy and 8-10 ft away, it can be hard for me to hear. I sit near the teacher to help with this.

7 Listening Situations Continued…
These are other challenging listening situations for me: Students answering during a duscission. Noise from the outside of the room “bleeding” in. Listening when there is a fan on. Listening to other when outside.
