5 What is a Student engagement System (Ses)?
Manage the student relationship throughout the lifecycle, giving everyone who interacts with the student a 360 degree view of what’s happening based on their roles. The purpose of the Student Engagement System is to: (1) manage the student relationship as we recruit, admit, and serve students in the multi-campus environment of UW Flexible Option, and (2) meet an array of operational needs and serve as the student portal to UW Flexible Option programs. The goal is to ensure that the technology solution complements our multi-campus approach and is flexible enough to meet the needs of a competency-based educational model. This approach allows us to realize the original UW Flex vision of centralized services, aligns us with current trends in the technology industry and is a similar approach taken by Southern New Hampshire University and Western Governor’s University. Deploying the SES is a critical next step in providing the centralized services articulated in the original vision of UW Flex. It will promote our efforts to provide quality services to students, additional UW campuses, additional Flex programs, and if done right and done well, to potentially offer comprehensive competency-based education services (curricular design, instructional design, marketing, recruitment, admissions, advising and alumni services)  to the more than 350 higher educational institutions that have publicly expressed interested in offering competency-based education. In addition, we are uniquely positioned to potentially market the SES as one of the nation’s first fully functioning, competency-based student engagement systems.
