2 Switch to a faster Internet access option
Cable modem Digital subscriber line two primary leaders in fast web access Incredibly fast, and do not tie up your telephone line. Always connected to the Internet. No more screeching modem connections. Both the cable companies and telecommunications utilities figured out that they could enhance their existing wiring schemes to transmit data via the Internet at increased speeds. Cable modems use cable connections and wiring to provide Internet access while digital subscriber lines use telecommunication lines to provide fast Internet access. MediaOne sent anthropologists into subscriber homes and found that cable modem users were online nearly five times longer per week than modem based Internet subscribers. Choosing between the two? Usually no choice. Avoid long term commitments

Installation Costs - $75-150 Leasing or purchasing a modem Installation is simple. The average consumer will be unable to set up their broadband subscription services. A technician will need to visit your house to help set up your personal computer for network access as well as to install the necessary cable or telecommunications wiring. Leasing or Purchasing a Modem - leasing over the long term is expensive modems are generally proprietary to the cable or dsl service don’t buy if you’re planning on relocating

Contact local cable companies or telecommunications providers Partial list of vendors in your CLE materials Pay attention to advertisements Seek advice from colleagues Many companies have interactive web sites that will tell you if they provide service in your area. At most web sites you can enter your zip code to determine what type of service is available in your area.

Purchase a new computer Troubleshoot modem and telephone line Change to a new ISP Reconfigure your web browser A slow processor, small hard drive and too little RAM are often major setbacks to a speedy Internet connection. >3 years old? Possibly add RAM Consult ISP re: modem configuration. Contact phone company re: telephone line troubles. Hear static?
