4 Damages and Losses 10 persons killed
205 houses collapsed; 311 seriously damaged; and 5,698 flooded Approx. 19,000 persons face housing problems 11,250 children < 5 lack nutrition 8,500 persons face hunger due to 5,700 ha paddy mostly destroyed 37,000 persons lack water; and 11,000 persons lack potable water 30,000 persons face risks due to inadequate sanitation

5 Damages and Losses 11,000 children face problems going back to school;
1 health station collapsed; 7 have poor sanitation conditions Thousands HH face risk of debt default due to loss of 988 ha fish ponds; 860 cattle; and 25,000 poultry 29 km road & 20 bridges destroyed needing repair Damaged dams/irrigation systems threaten livelihood of 65,000 people Financial loss approx. 300 trillion VND (US$ 18 million)

Evacuated and rescued people from isolated areas Rapidly assessed the losses and damages Provided cash to death victims Distributed chloramine for cleaning wells & other materials for drinking water Educated HH on how to prevent water born diseases Supported families with 2m VND whose house collapsed Appealed for donations, coordinated & distributed of relief materials Currently planning to help people recover their livelihoods

There are 5,700 flooded HHss, equal to 28,000 persons. 30% of them are estimated to need foods, equal to 8,500 persons

Existing latrines unhygienic The GoV has conducted IEC activities No plans as yet $713k USD needed to build 5,700 latrines per MOH standard Non-food items 1100 HH kits for 1100 families 11,000 sets of text books. 1,560 liters Perdona (mosquitoes spray) for preventing dengue and malaria 400 HH kits provided by RC None Health sector is able to provide chloramine B. PLAN to purchase 700 HH kits PLAN to purchase 1,500 sets of textbooks There may be some amt fr preventive medicine dept $22k USD needed for 700 HH kits $60k USD needed to buy 9,500 sets of text books $138k USD needed to buy Perdona

The provincial department has proposed PPC to support Likely they will get this support Needs for vulnerable groups 20 persons PLWHIV in 1 commune of Cam Khe need food, medicines because they are already impoverished Health insurance will help them w basic treatment Not clear $1.25k USD for 1.8t of rice for 6 mos

22 Conclusion Government has been active in helping victims
Large area affected. Exceeds local Govt, community/individual capacity It may take 1+ year for people to recover Too many may fall below the poverty line The main issue is meeting people immediate relief needs and restoring livelihoods
