3 Objective/Agenda To be able to use latitude and longitude to locate places on a map BR review Notes LAT/LONG practice!

4 Lines Longitude lines run north and south.
Latitude lines run east and west. The lines measure distances in degrees. Latitude Longitude

5 Where is 0 degree? Equator The equator is 0 degree latitude.
It is an imaginary belt that runs halfway point between the North Pole and the South Pole. Equator

6 P R I M E D A N Where is 0 degree? The prime meridian is 0 degrees longitude. This imaginary line runs through the United Kingdom, France, Spain, western Africa, and Antarctica.

7 Hemispheres By using the equator and prime meridian, we can divide the world into four hemispheres (half spheres), north, south, east, and west.

11 Using Latitude and Longitude
Let’s try and locate places on the map given their coordinates (Latitude and Longitude) 1. 30* S Latitude, 140* E. Longitude 2. 60* N Latitude, 30 * E. Longitude 3. 45* N Latitude, 90* W. Longitude

12 Practice Latitude and Longitude Practice
Put your name/#/date on it if you haven’t already! Let’s try #1 together, then do the rest on your own. When you finish, come up and show it to me! I will check it, then go on to the back page

13 Homework/Reminders Quiz on Friday over vocab (fill in the blank. It’s easy. Don’t worry) Interview and vocab due Friday. Check gradebook! If you are struggling with LAT/LONG, do the rest of the practice sheet for work tonight!

14 Exit Slip 1. Which way do lines of LATITUDE measure (N/S or E/W?)
On the back of your map, answer the following: (do not write questions, turn in when done) 1. Which way do lines of LATITUDE measure (N/S or E/W?) 2. Which way do lines of LONGITUDE meansure? (N/S or E/W?) 3. The equator is _______ degrees latitude 4. The prime meridian is ________ degrees longitude
