2. Overview
HUIT will begin rolling out new PC desktops and laptops equipped with the Windows 10 Operating System in the late summer/early fall timeframe.
Note: Currently PC desktops and laptops are rolled out with Windows 7.

3. Schedule and Timeline
May/June - Internal testing/validation of applications and Operating System security
July - HUIT Security signoff
July/August – Customer/partner testing (FSS, CS, AA&D, etc.)
September 1 - Begin rolling out Windows 10 on new computers

4. Transition Plan New PC desktops and laptops
All new PC desktops and laptops will be deployed with Windows 10.
Existing Windows 7 desktops and laptops:
The feasibility of upgrading existing Windows 7 computers in-place is on our roadmap for testing in the fall timeframe.
In the interim, in-place upgrades will be available to staff with a business need for the new Operating System.

5. Key Features and Benefits
Start Menu – Mix of traditional, Metro and live tiles

6. Microsoft Edge – Interactive web browser

7. Touch screen capability - allows switching between traditional desktop and touch screen on supported devices.

8. Enhanced security
Microsoft Security Baseline applies roughly 600 GPOs to make Windows more secure.
UEFI – A more advanced boot system, allowing for a number of boot-up related security and performance enhancements.

9. Digital assistant (Cortana) - Microsoft's version of Siri for Windows 10.

10. Training Aids and Opportunities
Support Services
Support Services will provide interested individuals and groups with an overview of Windows 10, highlighting key new features and significant changes.
