Understanding Youth Resilience to Violence. How do youth cope with and avoid violence? We want to learn from you. Seeking: Community members between years old to participate in a questionnaire Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia and Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada want to understand how young people in different countries cope with and resist the use of violence to solve problems. What will I be asked to do? You will be asked to complete an anonymous survey that covers some questions about: you (including things like age, gender, educational background, location, languages spoken, etc.) your sense of connection with family, friends and community your sense of cultural identity and connection your ability to meet or access resources for meeting basic needs such as food, housing, personal and social support your sense of your own strengths and difficulties your views about violence your experience, if any, of discrimination The questionnaire should take you about 30—45 minutes. You will not be identified in any way by answering the survey questions. Purpose of the study: This project will help the researchers and the communities we serve understand more about how young people develop and maintain resilience to violence. We want to pilot a draft set of measures that can help us identify what factors are most relevant to young people’s ability to resist adopting violence as a means of coping with a range of challenging experiences and circumstances. The main purpose of the study is to help us refine our understanding of the importance of each factor, based on input from young people aged in both Australia and Canada.
