1 BHS Collaborators For Success
Transition Coordinator: Bart Hensley Student Intern: Nathan Barske

2 What is Collaborators For Success?
A vocational job placement program at Brownsburg High School. BHS partners with local businesses to teach essential job skills to our Certificate Track students. Job placements, for students, are based on a hierarchy level; each student works at their own individualized level. The students work with a job coach, when out in the community. The job coaches use fading prompts to promote independence. Number of student interns taking part in the program: 23 students Number of job coaches: 4 job coaches Number of business/intern placements taking part in the program: 20 job placements

3 Student Evaluations The students are evaluated, by their job coach on a weekly basis. Three categories that students are evaluated on include Work Readiness, Hard Skills (On the job skills) and Soft Skills (Skills needed to keep a job). There are 21 tasks that the job coach specifically evaluates the student on in the job placement. Job coaches take data on what prompting skills the student requires as well as how many times that week the student required said prompt. At the end of the nine weeks, the job coach tallies up the prompts and how many times the student required the prompt in each category. This rubric goes into the student’s file and a copy goes home with the student.

4 BHS Vocational Hierarchy
Level 1- Classroom Experience: Students work independent living tasks, within the classroom setting. Students should work as independently as possible. Data must show student has had a min. of 3 different task experiences before moving on. For each task, the student must "meet expectations" in all three areas of the BHS Vocational Rubric before moving onto level 2. Example job tasks include: Vacuuming, Dusting, Cooking, Filing Paper, Organizing, Alphabetizing, and other life skills based tasks in the classroom.

5 BHS Vocational Hierarchy
Level 2- In-School Experience: Students work outside the classroom in the school environment with staff supervision/line of sight. Task analysis sheets used to show progress toward next level - must show leadership within group, works well independently, decreasing level of supervision/prompting, begin building a portfolio. For each task, the student must "meet expectations" in all three areas of the BHS Vocational Rubric before moving onto Level 3. Example job tasks include: Working in the cafeteria, assisting custodial staff, working in the nurses office, library aide, technology aide, etc.

6 BHS Vocational Hierarchy
Level 3- Community Experience: Students work in the community individually or in small groups with support from a job coach. Students may not have direct support at all times but will have supervision at all times. Students must be able to perform behaviorally, appropriately and socially to work in the community experience and beyond levels. Data will be collected on Work Readiness, Hard and Soft Skills, quarterly, beginning at this level. Data must show student has "met expectations" in all three areas of the BHS Vocational Rubric before moving onto Level 4. The ultimate goal is for a job coach to fade all prompting, before the student moves onto Level 4.

7 BHS Vocational Hierarchy
Level 4 Collaborator’s For Success Internship: This is the level that “opens the door” to employment for our students. Students work in a community job placement or business in an internship setting. Students will be evaluated by the job coach, or job placement supervisor in the level 4 setting. Students will require minimal prompting at this level of the job placement hierarchy, to ensure success in a real life job setting The ultimate goal is for the student to achieve independent job training, at the job placement, that he or she will use in their own future employment. The student’s experience at this level should be a reflection of real world work experience.

9 BCSC Food/Clothing Pantry
The students and job coaches run the operations of the food pantry throughout the week. We currently send students, in groups, five times a week to the pantry. Some job skills these students learn at the pantry include sorting food into food group categories, reading expiration dates, stocking shelves, recycling boxes, taking inventory, checking temps in the coolers, laundry, hanging/folding clothes and general custodial skills. This is a great job placement for students that are beginning their community job experience. The pantry is open to the public every 1st, 3rd, and 5th Thursday of the month. From 3-5:30pm
