4 Welcome to Changing Climate
During this lesson we will be exploring… Climate change inventions Image:

5 Let’s start “Climate change inventions”.

6 Climate change inventions
The blueprint David was inspired so much by this book he travelled to these places himself and projected the sentences from this book onto the ice caps and glaciers. Over the past few lessons we’ve seen the impacts of climate change on people and the places they live. In this lesson we will create drawings or blueprints to imaginative inventions that could help with the impacts of climate change. The art work Burning Ice is warning to us about how the planet’s landscape and oceans will change if the ice and glaciers continue to melting.

7 Rising sea levels or flooding
Climate change invention The blueprint To start, we will focus on designing inventions for climate change issues such as: Rising sea levels or flooding Water pollution Air pollution

8 The blueprint: Rising sea levels & flooding
Rising sea levels and flooding cause major impacts for people all around the world. There have been some creative and innovative ways to deal with rising sea levels and flooding. For example, this house in England was designed to float when the river next to it would flood during winter. The whole house would rise up with the water and then back down again as the water returned to the river. Image

9 The blueprint: Air pollution
Air pollution from factories and cars cause major health problems for us all . There have been some creative and innovative ideas to help deal with air pollution. For example, artist Matt Hope created an air filtration system on his bike. This meant Matt could filter bad air into clean air to his helmet while cycling. With each bike ride Matt would be catching toxins in the air with his bike and turning it into clean air. Image and info: Image

10 The blueprint: Water pollution
Water pollution causes major impacts for people and animals all around world, especially for those of us living in the Pacific Ocean. There have been some creative and innovative ideas to help deal with water pollution. For example, the ‘sea bin’ was designed by Australian surfers Andrew and Pete. The sea bin draws in rubbish floating in the water. The water exits back into the ocean while rubbish gets trapped to later be collected. Image:

11 Don’t forget to add notes explaining how your invention works.
Climate change invention The blueprint Don’t forget to add notes explaining how your invention works. Inspired by these three inventions draw in pencil your own design for an invention that helps with one of the following issues - rising sea water, flooding, water pollution or air pollution.

12 Climate change invention
Blueprints at Te Tuhi Don’t forget to bring your drawings to Te Tuhi as we will need them to help make the art we create.

13 During our Te Tuhi visit we will use a variety of materials and imagery to design and create our very own mixed media poster. Our posters will creatively highlight and present solutions to some of the problems of climate change. We hope over the last few lessons you have enjoyed learning more about climate change, its impacts, how artists use art to talk about climate change and the very cool inventions that exist today.

14 We look forward to having you all here
