2016 Key stage 1 Assessment Information for Parents/ Carers

New Tests From 2016, KS1 national curriculum test outcomes will no longer be reported using levels. Scaled scores will be given instead: Raw scores will be converted into scaled scores (these will be published only after the first tests have been administered): Working towards national expectations for their year group Working within national expectations for the year group Working with greater depth within national expectations for their year group

New Tests A new set of KS1 national curriculum tests replaces the previous tests and tasks: English reading paper 1: reading and answer paper combined English paper 2: reading booklet and reading answer booklet English grammar, punctuation and spelling Paper 1 English grammar, punctuation and spelling Paper 2: questions Mathematics paper 1 : arithmetic Mathematics paper 2 : reasoning Writing will be teacher assessed against Interim statements

Samples and examples Samples of these tests have been published: Study guides available to purchase with similar style of questioning

Key Dates Selected schools to administer KS1 tests early to inform standard setting ( Mon 11th April – Fri 22nd April) – We have been selected to do this with Maths May is our testing administration window- tests will be staggered Fri 3rd June is when the raw score – scaled scores are published 13th June Phonics screening check for any children who missed it in Year 1. 13th June Deadline for results to be submitted.

What you can do to support the children:
Support, praise and encouragement Attendance and punctuality Homework revises spelling, comprehension, maths tasks Work through sample tests Home reading record- use questions at the front to ask them about the texts- fill in the comments General revision whenever the opportunity arises- Maths – measuring / weighing/using coins/ shapes / times tables/ counting on/ back When reading – pointing out how punctuation has been used, asking for the classification of words – noun/ adjective/ conjunction Practise previous spellings – (spelling bank) Look at interim statements to help your child Handwriting practice over the holiday – strong emphasis this year on handwriting, grammar and spelling
