1 WP8 - System controls and integration
Synesis I-TherM 6th month meeting , 25-26/02/2016, Brunel University London

2 WP8 – Focus and objectives
Develop a control and monitoring solution for selected use-cases Objectives Identification of appropriate models for systems to be controlled Development of model based control solutions to optimize selected performance criteria Development of a monitoring infrastructure to feed both control solutions and expert system tools (EINSTEIN) Deployment of a control solution for optimization of the process on a real system

3 WP8 - Structure

4 WP8 – Tasks and deliverables
T8.1 – Identification of requirements (Synesis) T8.2 – Develop controls and monitoring systems (Synesis) T8.3 – Implement, test and optimise control and monitoring systems (Enogia) D8.1 R – Report in control identification requirements (month 20) D8.2 DEM – Control and monitoring system (month 26) D8.3 OTH – Implementation of control and monitoring system (month 28) D8.4 R – Report on optimized control systems (month 36) MS11 – Control and monitoring system (month 26) – Tested in lab MS14 – Implementation of control & monitoring system (month 28) – Operating in an industrial context

5 T8.1 Identification of requirements (months: 12-18)
Involved partners: Synesis, Spirax, Tata Steel, AME, Etherm, UBRUN, Enogia, EXP Topics addressed: Detailed description of I-ThERM energy recovery solutions, for which the control and monitoring system needs to be developed. Definition of control and monitoring objectives and specification of the overall architecture for orchestration of the automation system (modularity vs monolithic solution) Analysis and comparative study of the most interesting modelling and control approaches that can be relevant for I-ThERM.

6 T8.2 Develop controls and monitoring systems (months: 18-26)
Involved partners: Synesis, EXP Topics addressed: Development a control solution based on model predictive approach Development of the monitoring infrastructure Integration and leveraging of the EINSTEIN off-line optimization tools for medium and long term process optimization

7 T8.3 Implement, test and optimize control and monitoring system (months: 22-36)
Involved partners: Synesis, Spirax, AME, EXP, UBRUN, CETRI Topics addressed: Definition the hardware topology for the control solution (sensors, actuators, elaboration units) Deployment of a real-time control architecture on a specific hardware control solution Leveraging on the IEC advanced automation standard, coherently with the modular and object oriented approach adopted in task 8.1 Deployment of a monitoring application to grant correct feeding of both on-field supervision system and of high-level assessment and off-line optimization tools (EINSTEIN)
