Sets out what actions you will use to implement your strategy and achieve your clubs objectives and vision Spells out what needs to be done, by whom and by when Focuses on how you are going to achieve rather than just what you are going to achieve

Gives clear goals and direction – shapes your thoughts Helps communicate your plan to other people involved in your business Identifies weaknesses and opportunities Motivates For Others - Helps communicate your plan for your business Demonstrates professionalism and control of your business

9 A Simple Framework 1 2 3 4 Where are we now? Where do we want to be?
How do we want to get there? An appraisal of your club, internal and environment analysis 1 2 A vision of the future. The objectives for your club. A framework for action 3 How do we know we are there? Mechanisms for monitoring 4

10 Where are we now? - Look at what the present actual situation is with regard to - Breakdown of Activities / Services offered. Club “Health” – Membership stats, employees, volunteers, premises Financial position

11 Where are we now? - SWOT Strengths Weaknesses What do you do well?
What could you improve? INTERNAL EXTERNAL Threats What are the main threats to your club? Opportunities What could you change for the better?

12 Where do we want to be?- Vision
Set out a vision that you believe in and are proud to share with anyone connected with your club. Where do you want your club to be in the future? This should summarise your general aspirations

13 Your Objectives Outline the key objectives for your business -
Think about: What are the key objectives you have for you and your business? Are these SMART? Do they help achieve your overall Vision?

14 Where do we want to be?- Objectives
When developing Objectives they should be SMART SPECIFIC MEASURABLE ACHIEVABLE RELEVANT TIMELY GENERAL “Grow our membership”. SMART “Increase junior membership by 20% in the next 12 months”

15 How do we get there - Strategies and Actions
Consider and develop the strategies and actions your club needs to achieve its objectives - Think about: What are the strategies you need to focus on to turn your vison into reality and meet your objectives? What actions do you need to take to help implement these strategies? Who is going to be responsible for these strategies? What is the first action you are going to undertake?

16 Developing the Business Plan How do we know we’re there?
Agree a regular time period to review the plan. Setting clear objectives and action will help you identify if you have achieved them or not. Giving clear timescales on when actions need to be completed by and by whom. Update your plan if and when things move. .

18 Things to consider Tailor to your audience Who will read it?
What do they want to know? Clear message Can it be read and understood on its own? Positive Does it leave a good impression? Logical Does it flow and make sense?

22 Top Tips – Start your planning early – time disappears faster than you think Involve the right people and discuss with affected parties Don’t be afraid to change the plan if circumstances change radically, but also try to plan for changes Set realistic and achievable targets; don’t make the plan over optimistic Get help when you need it Above all, create a Business Plan and use it regularly
