3. Meaning of The Song
The lead singer of the band stated ‘’The entire song is made up of contradictory ideas….It’s just making fun of the thought of having a revolution. But it’s a nice thought.”

4. History of The Song
In a January 1994 interview with Rolling Stone, Kurt Cobain said that ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ was an attempt to write a song in the style of The Pixies, a band that Cobain greatly admired. He stated:
“I was trying to write the ultimate pop song. I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies. I have to admit it. When I heard the Pixies for the first time, I connected to that band so heavily that I should have been in that band-or at least in a Pixies cover band. We used their dynamics, being soft and quiet and then loud and hard.”

Weird Al Yankovic created a parody in 1992 of the song entitled ‘Smells Like Nirvana’, a song about the band [Nirvana] itself.
Tori Amos’s 1992 EP Crucify featured an acoustic piano version of the song.

Nirvana was an American rock band formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1987 by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic.
On Friday, April 8th, 1994, Kurt Cobain was found deceased in his home, which was the cause of Nirvana’s disbanding.
Members of the band are Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl. Past members include Aaron Burckhard, Dale Crover, Dave Foster, Chad Channing, Dan Peters and Jason Everman.
Acts associated with the band include Foo Fighters, Sweet 75, and Eyes Adrift.

7. My Opinion
I have a mixed opinion about the song. It’s a good song, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t see it as a rebellion song. I see it as more of one of those ‘I’m really aggravated so I’m gonna blast rock music and sing as loud as I want’ kind of songs. I don’t know, that’s my opinion, but overall it’s an awesome song.
