Module 1: Project Setup

3 Create JIRA Epic for new ECSS Project (1)
Navigate to the ECSS Project Once in the ECSS Project, select the Create Button

4 Create JIRA Epic for new ECSS Project (2)
Make sure the Project is ECSS Select the “Epic” Issue type Add the relevant fields from XRAS: Summary, Epic name should be the same (request number) Suggest naming convention –R1 for renewal 1, -E1 for extension 1 (and can concatenate –R1-E1 Title Component(s) – best initial guess for ECSS areas Service (shift-click for multiple resources) Request Date

5 Create JIRA Epic for new ECSS Project (3)
Continue adding relevant content from XRAS Allocation Start Allocation End Extension Date L3 Manager (corresponding to Component) Project Manager PI PI Note that Request Number should match Epic Name

Continue adding relevant content from XRAS XRAS Link points back to this project in XRAS (to allow ECSS experts to obtain proposal, etc) ECSS Rating, PI Rating are filled in after end-of-project PI Interview Description is optional And ignore “Epic Link”

Success! You have created the Epic for the project Note the unique JIRA identifier associated with this Epic, you will need this later!

ECSS Projects are hosted in a restricted access space, “ECSS Projects” This is linked from the ECSS Projects page in the open wiki: /XT/ECSS+Projects+Pages Navigate to the ECSS Projects Home Page

Note that each Level 3 area has a home page linked off of the ECSS Projects Home page We will use a Test home page for training, as to not clutter live project home pages Navigate to the Test home page

While on the Test page, select the … icon on the top menu (this is the “create from template” button). This will bring up a selection of available templates, select Project Home Page and then “Create” Create Confluence project home page for new project (3)

Add the Project Name (matching Epic Name) Save your changes

Now we’ll want to add a JIRA macro to create a project status display Note that we have a suggested JQL query to help aid with this Select the unitalicized text, and copy

Then edit the page again, and insert a JIRA Macro under the instructional text

Paste the string previously copied into your paste buffer into the JQL search bar: Note the items “Epic Link” and “Epic Name” in the JQL string – you will need to enter the correct values from your Epic to make the query function correctly (next slide)

Look at the relevant Epic for this project and notice the following: Epic Link (ECSS3-244 for this example) Epic Name (MCB for this example)

Edit the JQL string to insert the correct “Epic Link” and “Epic Name”: Then push the Search button (Important!)

After you have pressed the Search button, you should see query results (if you entered the Link and Name correctly). Try again if you have an error At this point, press “Insert” to insert the macro onto the page

Save the page at this point --

At this point, you have a basic project home page for this ECSS Project Some additional cleanup: Delete instructional text for the JQL query Fine-tune the dashboard display Hint: Edit page, select JIRA macro, then choose edit (next slide)

Edit JIRA Macro Then choose “Display Options” at the bottom of the JIRA Macro edit page

23 Initiate Workplan from Confluence project home page (1)
At this point, we can initiate the workplan from the project home page With the page “Saved”, push the “Create Workplan” button

At this point, you are in editing mode – Name the page, eg, “MCB14000 Workplan” Add the Title Click the JIRA Macro, and add the JIRA Epic Link (eg ECSS3- 244) to the query search (more next page) Add the PI Save the page

At this point the workplan is ready for the L3 manager to assign staff Navigate to the Epic to advance the workflow to the relevant L3 manager (select JIRA link)

27 Open Project for L3 assignment (1)
At this point, the project manager will advance the workflow and assign an L3 manager Select “+ Assign L3 Area”, from the Epic in JIRA

28 Open Project for L3 assignment (2)
At this point, the project manager will advance the workflow and assign an L3 manager Select “+ Assign L3 Area”, from the Epic in JIRA Start typing to find L3 manager Add message to manager Select “+ Assign L3 Area”

29 Open Project for L3 assignment (3)
At this point the project manager project setup is complete, and the ball is in the L3 manager’s court.
