2 Employee Separation and Retention
To compete effectively, organizations must take steps to ensure that good performers are motivated to stay with the organization, where as chronically low performers are allowed, encouraged, or if necessary, forced to leave. Miss Samah Ishtieh 5/6/2018

3 Separation The two types of turnover are:
Involuntary turnover turnover initiated by the organization (often among people who would prefer to stay). Voluntary turnover turnover initiated by employees. Miss Samah Ishtieh 5/6/2018

4 Managing Involuntary Turnover
The employment-at-will doctrine is a policy that allows for termination of an employee with or without a “good or just cause.” Violence in the workplace caused by involuntary turnover has become a major organizational problem in recent years. A standardized, systematic approach to discipline and discharge is necessary. Miss Samah Ishtieh 5/6/2018

5 Alternative Dispute Resolution
This is a method of resolving disputes that does not rely on legal system. The four stages of ADR are: Promote an open-door policy Perform peer reviews by individuals at the same level in the organization Mediation by a neutral third party Arbitration by a professional, from outside the organization. 6 Managing voluntary Turnover-Job Withdrawal
Progression of withdrawal is a theory that dissatisfied individuals enact a set of behaviors in succession to avoid their work situation. Three categories include: Behavior change Physical job withdraw Psychological job withdraw Miss Samah Ishtieh 5/6/2018

8 Withdrawal behaviors are related to one another, and they are all at least partially caused by job dissatisfaction. Behavior change: an employee’s first response to dissatisfaction would be to try to change the conditions that generate the dissatisfaction, leads to an increased number of grievances. شكاوي Physical withdrawal: there are several ways a dissatisfied worker can physically withdrawal from the organization, such as: Leave the job Internal transfer Absenteeism Tardiness تأخر Miss Samah Ishtieh 5/6/2018

9 Psychological job withdrawal
If the primary dissatisfaction has to do with the job itself, the employee may display a very low level of job involvement, which is the degree to which people identify themselves with their jobs. If the dissatisfaction is with the employer as a whole, the employee may display a low level of organizational commitment, which is the degree to which an employee identified with the organization and is willing to put forth effort on its behalf. 10 Retirement Is an important event in an employee’s life and also has an important impact on the organization where he worked for a major portion of his life. Phased or gradual retirement allow older employees, usually with long service records, to progressively reduce their working time and workload over a period of time instead of abruptly shifting from full time employment to retirement. 11 Retirement can be classified into three categories
Compulsory retirement, forced retirement and premature retirement Compulsory retirement: while every individual retires after he reached the retirement age set by the company/firm. Forced retirement happens if an employee has violated the condition enumerated in the service agreement. Premature retirement happens when an employee becomes disabled in an accident or due to some disease or is offered the option of retiring by the management before attaining the retirement age with full benefits of retirement. 12 Retirement Benefits Early retirement: for those who spent 25 years in the organization have the right to retire and get pension ((راتب تقاعدي Pre retirement counseling: usually before retirement at age 65 years, seminars held to those people in topics such as health, housing, social security, legal and financial consideration, use of leisure time. 13 Cont. Retirement Benefits
Health care benefits for retires: health problem for old people becomes serious. Social security will cover these cost. Pension: both employers and employees cover the cost of pension plants or by employer only. Not all companies are required to give pension plans. Miss Samah Ishtieh 5/6/2018

14 Managing an effective benefits program
Set objective and strategy for benefits: the strategy may be minimum benefits strategy or to be first with the newest benefits or matching benefits program with similar organizations. Involve participant and union of benefit decision. Communicate benefits effectively: let the employees know about the value of the benefits. Monitor the cost closely. Miss Samah Ishtieh 5/6/2018
