1 Starting from Scratch

2 Aliens have attacked the Earth and vaporized every living person that you have ever known
You travel around for days looking for another human being but can’t find anyone… You get on a boat… travel to an island… and find hundreds of people who have had their minds erased about their past lives and are living in anarchy These people, though unable to remember the way things used to be, are still fully capable individuals. They just need direction and look to you and the members of your group for guidance. They see you as the leader and ask that you bring order to their chaotic world by creating a government that will last for years to come. Starting From Scratch

3 Start From Scratch Things you must consider…
Authority – who is in charge and what they can do, why did you pick them Laws – what is allowed and who enforces them, why are they important, how do you change them Economy – buying/selling, payment methods, what do you use, why Security – who protects the society you live in, who says and why

4 Start From Scratch Authority (Types of Government)
Democracy – One person, one vote. Also known as “direct democracy.” The people vote for all matters related to the society Republic – Representatives are elected to represent the interests of the people and vote on their behalf. Authoritarian – Centralized power into one or few people. Examples include Dictatorships, Monarchy, and Oligarchy Theocracy – A government based in religion or worship of a higher being/idol.

5 Start From Scratch Economy (Types of Economies)
Traditional – Traditions, customs and beliefs help shape the economy and what is produced (often “old-fashioned” rural economies) Command – an economy in which production, investment, prices, and incomes are determined centrally by a government. (Communism, Fascism) Market – An economy based on free-enterprise where the government stays out of the economy and allows the private citizens to dictate the market (Capitalism) Mixed – An economic system combining public and private enterprise. Some parts of the economy are privately owned/funded while others are influenced/controlled by the government.

6 Possible Problems… People who disagree with you…
Other groups of people who you didn’t find but have another ruler… How do you take care of the people… How do you pass authority… How would you deal with differences and beliefs
