1 Seeking To Know God

2 Everyone Is A Theologian
Atheists Agnostics Christians Buddhists Muslims Astrologists Satan Worshipers

3 What Kind Of Theologian Am I?
Gullible? Lazy? Careless? Thoughtful? Organized? Prideful? Humble? What am I doing to know God?

4 God Wants Us To Seek Him “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 “…and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth…that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us….” Acts 17:26-28

5 God Wants Us To Know Him Jeremiah 31:33-34 – “But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days,” declares the Lord, “I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. They will not teach again, each man his neighbor and each man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them….”

6 Seeking God Is Our Highest Priority
“The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father.” Charles Spurgeon

7 God Invites Us To Know Him
“My son, if you will receive my words and treasure my commandments within you, make your ear attentive to wisdom, incline your heart to understanding; for if you cry for discernment, lift your voice for understanding; if you seek her as silver and search for her as for hidden treasures; then you will discern the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:1-6

8 The Fool Does Not Know God
Jeremiah 4:22 – “For My people are foolish, they know Me not; they are stupid children and have no understanding. They are shrewd to do evil, but to do good they do not know.” Psalm 14:1 – “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God….’”

9 Blundering Through Life
It is sheer lunacy to blunder through this life without knowledge of God. We are His creatures. This is His world. He created. He ordered. He upholds. Why would we ignore God when it is vastly to our advantage to know everything we can about Him – and to actually KNOW Him.

10 Wise Men (Still) Seek Him
“Blessed are You, O Lord; teach me Your statutes….I will meditate on Your precepts and regard Your ways. I shall delight in Your statutes; I shall not forget Your word….Your servant meditates on Your statutes. Your testimonies also are my delight; they are my counselors.” Psalm 119:12,15,16,23,24

11 How Shall We Proceed? There are certain principles about God that we will consider 1. God has revealed Himself to us through His word. 2. God is Lord and King, and rules so His creatures can worship and adore Him. 3. God is Savior and seeks the restoration of His children. 4. God exists in a triunity. Each person in God has identity and purpose. 5. We must seek God’s will, not our own.

12 Why Study God? Just for knowledge?
1 Cor. 8:1 – “…Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies.” Rather, so that we can meditate on the things revealed by God so we can become more like God.

13 Psalm 119:1-3 For Godliness “How blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord. How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, who seek Him with all their heart. They also do no unrighteousness; they walk in His ways.”
