1 'SUGAR / SUGARCANE - VISION 2020'
Presentation by Prakash Naiknavare Country Head - India SUGAR MAXX Inc, USA

2 World Sugar Scenario World Sugar Sector is on the thresh-hold of leveraging opportunities created by global shifts in Sugar Trade Emergence of Sugarcane as a source of Renewable Energy thru Ethanol & Cogeneration Food & Energy security provider for the entire world

3 World Sugar Statistics
Sugar Producing Countries (122) Consumption by 195 countries across the globe 7.5 Billion world population annually consume 190 Million tons sugar

4 World Sugar Statistics (contd…)
Annual world sugar consumption is growing at a steady rate of 2% 70% of the global sugar production is derived from Sugarcane while the rest is contributed by Sugar beet & other allied crops

5 Indian Sugar Scenario Consumption growth in Asia is much brisk with India topping the list with annual 4.02% India's domestic sugar requirement is estimated to touch record 30 Million tons by the year 2020 India has a strong sweet tooth with 1.18 Billion consumers The clubbed effect of  La Nina replacing El Nino + End of EU quota will push the Global sugar market back to surplus

6 Sugarcane The 'Kalpa-Vruksha'
Added Advantage of Growing Sugarcane is it's byproducts : Molasses - Value added in variety of industrial & potable alcohols & vital fuel additive like Ethanol Bagasse - Value added in generating electricity & manufacturing particle boards Sugarcane tops are in great demand as cattle feed

7 Stevia Crop - A Challenge to Sugarcane
On the Global horizon, increasing cultivation of Stevia crop has poised a serious challenge to Sugarcane Stevia Sugar : 100% Organic % Calorie content 30 Times more sweet Certified as safe for consumption of diabetes. Already 12 major countries including US, Japan, EU, Australia, Newzeland, Canada, Brazil & Russia are using Stevia Sugar as sweetner

8 Byproducts Molasses : A source of raw material for
Variety of value adding industries like, Ethanol, Potable & Industrial Alcohols, Chemicals, Cattle Feed etc Second generation bio ethanol based on Ligno–Cellulosic biomass or Agri residues as feed stock will drastically revise Molasses consumption freeing it for other value additions. The National policy on Biofuels in India has set % blending target by 2020, a challenge for the current craze for Molasses.

9 Byproducts (contd…) Bagasse: 29% of crushed cane. The Main source of fuel to boilers. With increasing availability & use of natural gas as fuel source, bagasse has to explore other value adding options in future. Aggressive R & D in progress to use Bagasse in fuel Ethanol programme.

10 Let's be prepared for this !!
36 months from now is not a long period to witness these major changes on the Global Sugar / Sugarcane Sector

11 THANK YOU Prakash Naiknavare
