4 Who is Mrs. Denk? Graduated from Adelphi University with a Masters Degree General Ed and Special Ed certified (ESL in progress) Taught for 5 Years in Brooklyn and Queens Taught grades 3, 4 and 5 Just had a baby named Nicholas on the 4th of July Has a husband named Greg and a dog named Bailey

7 ELA Expeditionary Learning Words are introduced every Monday
4 modules created by New York State Eight to nine weeks of instruction (3 units/module) FOCUS: building literacy skills while students learn about the world Each module contains a text that the entire class will be reading. Most of the reading of that text will be done at home. MODULE 1: Stories of Human Rights MODULE 2: Inventions that Changed People’s Lives MODULE 3: Sports and Athletes’ Impact on Culture MODULE 4: Natural Disasters in the Western Hemisphere The district has formed an ELA committee that is looking at a variety of different resources in order to continue to BEST support the students. WORD STUDY Words are introduced every Monday Vocabulary homework (approximately 3 times a week) QUIZ EVERY FRIDAY

Materials include: learning centers Hands on manipulatives Interactive online practice TOPICS COVERED: Fluency with Whole Numbers and Decimals Chapter 1: Place, Value, Multiplication and Expressions Chapter 2: Divide Whole Numbers Chapter 3: Add and Subtract Decimals Chapter 4: Multiply Decimals Chapter 5: Divide Decimals Operations with Fractions Chapter 6: Add and Subtract Fractions Chapter 7: Multiply Fractions Chapter 8: Divide Fractions Geometry and Measurement Chapter 9: Algebra: Patterns and Graphing Chapter 10: Convert Units of Measurement Chapter 11: Geometry and Volume **Please make sure that your child reviews their multiplication facts every night!

10 The students will be given homework every night except FRIDAY
Read for a minimum of 20 minutes each night Reading Logs will be collected on Fridays Math will be given each night (Students MUST show their work!) Please review your child’s homework each night for completion, accuracy and neatness.

11 Students will have a working snack each day
Please remind your child NOT to share food Healthy Snacks Please! Please label all water bottles Bathroom and Water Fountain Breaks FOOD IS NO LONGER PERMITTED FOR CLASS PARTIES OR BIRTHDAYS
