Access the District Capacity Assessment (DCA) and your district’s baseline DCA data Read the DCA (introduction and scoring guide) As you are reading each item outlined in the scoring guide, reflect on the following: Why would it be important for my district to have this DCA item fully in place? Which DCA items might others in the district need to be convinced that they are important to the district to focus efforts? Note any confirmation or surprises after reviewing your district’s baseline DCA data.

4 Differentiating DIT Coaching Support Sessions
Sections of the DIT Coaching Support Session content will be differentiated if the people attending the DIT Coaching Support Sessions have the following experiences and background knowledge: Attended the DIT Pre-Session Participated in the baseline District Capacity Assessment data collection Participate in the MIBLSI ISD supported district model Extensive background knowledge in implementation science and the National Implementation Research Network (NIRN) capacity assessments

5 Outcomes Define the MIBLSI coaching supports accessible to district partners Develop knowledge, skills, and abilities of MTSS coordinators in how to install and successfully use the components of an implementation infrastructure Prepare to facilitate activities designed to enhance the district’s capacity by developing processes and products to support the selection and successful use of effective innovations

7 Defining MIBLSI Funded by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special Education and through various grants from the U.S. Department of Education Intensive technical assistance program for the successful use of an integrated behavior and reading MTSS model

8 Defining MIBLSI (cont.)
MIBLSI is intensive technical assistance because it encompasses: A four-year professional learning series in three main areas: (1) PBIS; (2) School-Wide Reading Model; (3) School-Wide Content Area Reading Model Professional learning is for targeted audiences (district team, school leadership teams, grade-level teams, school coaches, school staff) across the four years Use of specific assessments and data systems related to the three main areas of support On-site coaching for your district team and for the initial set-up and use of the assessments and data systems

9 MIBLSI’s District-Wide Approach
All schools that are within a traditional K-12 educational setting will learn and successfully use the components of an integrated behavior and reading MTSS model Schools can either be divided into two cohorts (separated by one school year) or be encompassed in one cohort that will begin accessing professional learning this winter Once schools begin accessing professional learning the cohort designation cannot be changed

Schools need to be supported across the implementation process Your district is creating an implementation infrastructure to support schools (to be defined next) It encompasses: Forming a District Implementation Team Ensuring there is a conduit from central office (called a Liaison) who is represented on the team Identifying a MTSS Coordinator

20 Activity 2.1 Access the DIT Coaching Service Delivery Plan and your DCA reflections that were Pre-Reading prior to coming to today’s session Your MIBLSI Implementation Specialist will provide you with an overview of the DIT Coaching Service Delivery Plan (its structure, components, etc.) Share with your MIBLSI Implementation Specialist your reflections on the DCA and your district’s baseline data

21 MTSS Coordinator (Internal Coach) Responsibilities
Engage in independent reading of all DIT Installation Series materials to be better prepared for the sessions Gather any documents or previous work that might overlap with what is being asked in the installation series module so the team can build upon work that aligns and has already been started Practice using the tools and processes for the DIT concepts / skills before each DIT Installation session

22 MTSS Coordinator (Internal Coach) Responsibilities (cont.)
Speak with the MIBLSI Implementation Specialist (external coach) before and after all DIT meetings to review what information will be added to the DIT meeting agenda, update the status of action items, and debrief the meetings Over time, the MIBLSI coaching supports provided to the DIT will begin to fade while the MTSS Coordinator’s coaching supports to the team will gradually increase over the course of the next 1-2 years

26 Activity 3.1 Access the document titled, “Defining the District Implementation Infrastructure” Your executive leaders and school principals read this document and selected people to fulfill the Liaison role, your role as the MTSS Coordinator and the District Implementation Team Take some time now to read the document As you are reading, identify sections where you need clarification or have questions; especially related to your role as the MTSS Coordinator Your District Implementation Team will also be reading this document. Can you anticipate clarification they will need or questions they might ask?

28 Essential Questions Districts with a well-functioning implementation infrastructure should be asking these questions when they meet: How many schools are implementing? (e.g., behavior and reading MTSS components) How well are they implementing? What is the impact on student outcomes? What are barriers to implementation and how can the barriers be addressed?

The foundation to being able to answer the four questions is because: The DIT Installation Series has focused on your district’s capacity to select, support, and sustain the use of effective innovations (District Capacity Assessment) Module 4 of the Installation Series focuses on organizing the DIT for success to be able to answer the essential questions

Day 1: Module 1: Introduction to implementation research and terminology that will be used throughout the series Module 2: Defining school readiness and developing readiness activities for each of the two cohorts of schools Module 3: Defining an “assessment system” and overview of data coordination supports provided to the district / schools Module 4: Organizing and structuring the DIT for success

Overview, Registration, and User Access

35 MIDATA Overview MIBLSI’s primary system used for housing data and training event information, as well as for project reporting Also provides data dashboards and reports that are available to schools, districts, and even ISDs to engage in an on-going data review process

A place to enter and analyze capacity and fidelity data that are not hosted in any other data system Dashboards and reports are designed for alignment with MIDATA data review process at the school, district, and ISD levels

A single and SIMPLE point of data entry (school-level) that aggregates data up to the district, ISD, and state levels (This does NOT really mean you will be duplicating data entry) Data dashboard designs are as based on principles for effective display of data and information processing that are combined with repeated cycles of usability testing

Work with your MIBLSI Implementation Specialist to follow the steps in being able to register yourself in MIDATA (if you are not already registered) and then be able to be assigned “user access” Your DIT will be registering themselves in MIDATA after the first DIT Installation session and you will work with your Implementation Specialist to assign each of them user access
