1 Poplawy Reserve in Pultusk
ł with the „Our forest” path

2 „Our forest” That area boasts the most interesting forest of all. There are a few attractions there, like the „ master of climbing” or the „animal sounds”. It’s areally nice place to spend your free time both with your friends or alone. A lot of people come here to jog or do the nordic waking. The forest covers 6,28 hectares. The longer path is 5,5 km and the path for the disabled is about 0,8 km long.

3 The layer construction of the forest
A forest is a huge ecosystem in which everything is connected. The emergent layer is the highest of all. It includes only the tall trees that stick out above the canopy. Many species of animals, for example squirrels, martens or birds, live in the trees’ crowns . The canopy , the upper level of the trees, forms the cover over the lower layers. A lot of insects and other flying animals are found there. Understory is situated at the height of 6 metres. It includes young trees, bushes (hawthorn, viburnum, juniper, filbert) and gives habitats to animals such as roes, boars, deer, foxes. The forest floor is also called „the bed of the forest”. There is a lot of moss, grass, and mushrooms here overgrowing this layer. You can find spiders, insects, frogs and snakes there, too. The duff is the layer which is created by the remains of the animals and plants which haven’t decomposed yet.

4 The forestation Our reserve is a mixed coniferous forest. It is formed both by broadleaf and conifer trees. Scots pines are the most numerous species in our forest. They are over 180 years old! Instead of leaves, scots have rigid needles. Another type of the tree which you can usually find here is the silver birch. It stands out from other trees because of its beautiful chalky white bark. It’s a protected species.
