5 Electoral College Map:
Please add the following to your map: TITLE: 2016 Presidential Election KEY: Indicate the candidate, party, and ideology associated with each color. How many electoral college votes each candidate received. The total number of popular votes AND the percentage of popular vote each candidate received.

6 Write a black S in each of the 2016 swing states (NV, CO, AZ, NM, IA, WI, OH, PA NH, VA, NC, FL)
How many swing states did Trump win? Clinton? How many swing state electoral college votes did each candidate earn? Write a black X on the states where the winning candidate received 50% or less of the states popular vote.

Where do they come up with the Electoral College numbers? OR What determines the number of EC votes each state is allocated? OR Explain why CA has 55 EC votes, but WA only has 12. What is the least number of EC votes/electors a state can have? How does NE & ME allocate their EC’s and why are they allowed to be different?

Explain the strengths of the Electoral college system. Explain why small states like the EC. Explain why candidates like the EC. Explain why direct popular election is unlikely to be adopted.

Explain the effects third parties have on the presidential election. Explain the effect the EC has on third party candidates? Why is it impossible for third party candidates to win a presidential election?

Explain the major flaws in the electoral college. In the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, and Donald Trump won the Electoral College vote and therefore the election.  How is this possible? Why is it impossible for third party candidates to win a presidential election? What happens if no candidate receives 270 Electoral College votes? Why do the voters in Washington D.C. get to vote for president, but voters in U.S. territories do not?

Compare and contrast some of the proposed reforms for the electoral college. Explain the pros and cons of the district plan. Explain the pros and cons of the proportional plan. Explain the pros and cons of eliminating the EC and using just the popular vote. Explain the pros and cons of the national bonus plan.

What are the strengths of the electoral college system? What are the flaws of the electoral college system? Explain why it is nearly impossible for a third party candidate to be elected President. Explain how electoral votes are allocated in most states. Explain how electoral votes are allocated in Maine & Nebraska. Why hasn’t this system been changed?
