11 Course Overview Preparing for a Career in Early Childhood Development is the foundation to the Early Childhood Development program and will give you a broad overview of some of the different career opportunities in the field. You will be introduced to a variety of roles that an early childhood professional may undertake within the field as well as some of the professional organizations, resources and standards affiliated with the field. This course will also offer you some helpful academic strategies to support your learning throughout the program.

12 Course Description Early childhood professionals establish an environment for the early learning success of the children they serve. This course provides the opportunity for the early childhood development student to prepare for success in the Kaplan University classroom environment. Topics addressed include roles, responsibilities, and various career opportunities within the field, professional standards, personal management tools, strategies, and university resources. Additionally, students will preview the portfolio project that will be developed in the final capstone course in the program.

Identify early childhood professional roles, responsibilities, and standards Use a variety of personal management tools, strategies and university resources to enhance learning  Identify careers within the early childhood development field  Apply basic knowledge of the early childhood professional role to program and professional goals Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English  Describe the historical events that influence contemporary culture
