14 What question Sam is responding to?
I’m Sam Cheung. I joined Government in My first posting was EO (General) in Labour Department responsible for the general administration of Labour Department Headquarters. Two years later, I took up the special duty for the removal of the LD Headquarters from Lee Garden in Causeway Bay to Harbour Building in Central. It was really a challenge for a comparatively green EOII. Luckily it was done satisfactorily. In 1986, I was posted to Sam Shui Po District Office of the then CNTA, now called the Homes Affairs Department. I was a Liaison Officer there. Then in 1990, I took up the most interesting job in my career. I was posted to the Special Duty Team for the demolition of the world-famous Kowloon Walled City. I had to liaise with the residents and the operators of the dental clinics, shops and factories in the notorious place everyday and also sometimes at night. I had lots of unforgettable experience working there. I was promoted to EOI in that office. After two years working in the Walled City, I was posted to the Hospital Services Department and then on loan to the then newly established Hospital Authority for the planning of new hospitals and medical facilities. In 1993, I was posted to the former Urban Services Department working for the removal and privatization of the Cheung Sha Wan Abattoir. I had to assist in drawing up redundancy plans for the butchers of the abattoir. In 1996, I was promoted to Senior EO and posted to Sai Kung District Lands Office of Lands Department. I was the District Secretary responsible for the overall office administration of the District Lands Office. In 2001, I was posted to Health, Welfare and Food Bureau. I was the Secretary for the Licensing Appeals Board handling appeal cases from hawkers, restaurants, billiard-houses, food factories, bars and wine-houses pertaining to licensing matters. My last post in government service is in Education Bureau dealing with the international schools in Hong Kong. I worked there since 2006 until I retired in 2010. Before my retirement, I used to play golf on holidays. I learnt golf at Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course when I was working in Sai Kung. After retirement, I switch to hiking because golf is too expensive a game for a retiree. Hiking gives me similar exercise to keep me healthy as golf. Thank you.
