12 Short-term solution the manager at the company and Sales representatives already had their BlackBerry smart phones ready for and also for phone calls. The Company developed a Java application by using BlackBerry® Mobile Data System (BlackBerry MDS) and by using a free feature of BlackBerry® Enterprise Server that provides secure connections between wireless applications and back-end databases. For this short term solution, the cost is almost negligible which was around $500 for programming the interface, and 10 hours for the development time, but at the end, the customer services benefits are outstanding. Now, when sales representative notices a shortage of a pair of red soccer cleats on in the store he can send using his or her BlackBerry Curve, and view the inventory status by using the style number, and at the same time send the customer an , complete with links to images of the shoe, of the order just placed. By using BlackBerry smart phone access to the order-entry and tracking system, adidas manager has watched the soft benefits accrue. Sales representatives have gotten more productive, and revenue opportunities have grown with the ease of on-the-spot purchasing, and at the same time, the customer service representatives now is having more time to spend on the customer inquiries. Because, they are not spending any time on phones from sales representatives to ask for chasing down inventory data for a customer's inquiries.
