4 7:30-8:15 Morning Arrival Students will complete Morning Work, which is a review of reading and math skills, and then select a book to read. After morning announcements, we will start the day with science!

5 Science 8:15-8:45 I teach science to my class and Mrs. Granthams class. I will start by teaching the first unit to my class for 4 weeks and the other 4 weeks your child will have social studies with Mrs. Grantham. The third grade science units include animal lifecycles and classification, composition of rocks and soils, and matter. Our first unit will be plants and animals.

6 Social Studies 8:15-8:45 Students will be going to Mrs. Grantham for all social studies instruction. This year will focus on communities with an emphasis on the history, geography, economics, government and citizenship of our local area. Each unit will last for 4 weeks.

7 8:45-9:00 Recess This year the students will be indoors for morning recess. During this time the students will eat snack, use the restroom, and have a choice of activities in the classroom.

8 Snack Please send a HEALTHY snack to school with your child daily
Fruit, vegetables, yogurt, bagels, cheese and crackers, cereal bars… No sweets or nuts please!!! Lunch is LATE

9 9:00-10:00 Eureka Math The third grade math curriculum emphasizes problem solving skills, basic facts, measurement and basic algebraic and geometric concepts. This year the third grade math class will be focusing on mastering the third grade math common core by utilizing math by self, math with a partner, and math games – Daily 3 strategies. *Great homework resource on my website!*

11 Language Arts- Guided Reading
10:50-12:40 Language Arts- Guided Reading I will teach reading strategies through mini-lessons and focus on skills and comprehension. Students will read leveled books individually, with partners and in small groups. They will also be conferencing with me during this time. We will do a variety of genre and author studies throughout the year. As well as fiction and non-fiction topics.

12 Language Arts- Writer’s Workshop
10:50-12:40 Language Arts- Writer’s Workshop Students will learn strategies for developing personal narrative and fictional stories during the first quarter. We will emphasize writing from our own life experiences, using model texts as examples. I will conference with students during this time to develop their individual writing skills. We will also study and practice persuasive writing, informational writing and fractured fairy tales.

14 Meeting Time & Teacher Read Aloud
1:30-1:45 Meeting Time & Teacher Read Aloud Greeting- each child is greeted daily using a different language. We model and practice appropriate social skills. Sharing- several students each day can share if they choose to. During this time, students will be exposed to great literature read by the teacher. It will help students dive deeper into meaning, fluency, and listening comprehension.

15 Word Work/ Silent Reading
1:45-2:00 Word Work/ Silent Reading The students will begin to work on cursive writing as part of the Fundations program (reading decoding program from K-2) We will start with the lower case letters. Fundations will be taught again this year. There will also be a focus on grammar and vocabulary skills.

16 2:00-2:25 WIN – What I Need This is a time added to every student’s schedule. It is a time to focus on the individual needs of each student providing intervention or enrichment as needed.

17 Afternoon Dismissal Students will write in their agenda at the beginning of each week. Please see your child’s agenda daily for assignments and due dates! They will also have homework that will come home every Monday and be due on Friday.

19 Communication I will a weekly newsletter each Friday since Millridge is a paperless building. On occasion I will also send home information in the Friday Folder along with your child’s class work. 21 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee
Students will now be taking the AIR test in October to determine passage of the third grade reading guarantee. They will also be administered the IOWA which can take the place of the third grade reading guarantee if it is passed. The 2nd round of AIR testing will be in April. There will be more information given once the testing gets closer. Helpful practice links on my teacher webpage

22 Student of the Week Every student in the class will have the opportunity to be the student of the week. Throughout the week they will: Be the student of the day and share an all about me poster Can have a family member take them out to lunch any day that week A schedule was sent home the first week of school so you know in advance when your child will be student of the week.

23 Great Readers This year Your children get to participate in the Great Readers Program. This program allows students to read books from a list, review the book, and earn points for the books. Each semester there is an awards assembly where your child is showcased for their hard work and great prizes are awarded. The book list is on the Millridge webpage and my teacher webpage. They will be learning about the program next week.

24 Field Trips The students will visit the Holden Arboretum twice this year, in the fall and spring, to explore science concepts. *October 24th- will need chaperones* We will also visit Burton Century Village in May to see how people lived in our community long ago.

25 Google/ Chrome book Pilot
Our classroom is lucky to be part of the Google Pilot this year, which means we have a chrome book cart in our classroom. Google Account -Docs, slides, classroom -Later in the year will have the option to use Docs for RRJ
