Course 6419A Module 0: Introduction Presentation: 20 minutes WINDOWS SERVER 2008 This introduction module provides students with an overview of the course content materials and logistics for Course 6419A, Configuring, Managing and Maintaining Windows Server® 2008 Servers. Required materials To teach this course, you need the following materials: Course Handbook Course Companion C Trainer materials including: Trainer Preparation Guide Microsoft Office PowerPoint® files for this course Microsoft Virtual PC/Server Classroom Setup Guide Virtual machines for the course Latest error logs for the course Important It is recommended that you use PowerPoint 2002 or a later version to display the slides for this course. If you use PowerPoint Viewer or an earlier version of PowerPoint, all the features of the slides might not be displayed correctly. Preparation tasks To prepare for this course, you must follow and complete the tasks outlined in the Trainer Preparation Guide. Course 6419A Module 1: Windows server 2008 overview Module 0: Introduction the next generation of Windows server built on the success and strength of the Windows server 2003 operating system. help IT expert control their infrastructure and provide the ability of management more effective. Welcome students to the course and introduce yourself. Provide a brief overview of your background to establish credibility. Ask students to introduce themselves and provide their backgrounds, product experience, and expectations of the course. Tell Students that the two critical course components are the Course Handbook and the Course Companion CD. Mention that while the Course Handbook is primary resource for in-class learning, they can use the Course Companion CD for additional reference within the class and outside the class. Additional Information on the Course Handbook : Course Handbook –The handbook enhances the learning experience through: Lessons: Include various types of topics based on the content type to be taught: Lecture, Demonstration, Multimedia, and Discussion. Guide you through the learning objectives and provide the key points that are critical to the success of the in-class learning experience. Labs: Provide a platform for students to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the module. The labs provide a real-world experience with scenario-driven exercises, tasks, and high-level steps. Module Reviews and Takeaways: Provide improved on-the-job reference material that includes only the most effective and up-to-date troubleshooting tips and best practice recommendations our industry has to offer. This information helps students to recall and synthesize troubleshooting tips for the common issues as a way to boost knowledge/skills retention. Lab Answer Keys: Provide step-by-step lab solution guidance at your finger tips when it’s needed. These are included in the appendix of the handbook. Additional Information on the Companion CD: Course Companion CD - The CD provides the full course content with: Lessons: Include detailed information for each topic in addition to the content in the Course Handbook. Labs: Include complete lab exercise information and answer keys to use during lab time Resources: All resources are sorted and categorized into five sections: Microsoft Learning, TechNet and MSDN content, Knowledge Base, Books, Communities, and Tools, Reviews and Takeaways Review Questions and Answers. Course 6419A Module 0: Introduction Module 2: The benefits of Windows server 2008 3 areas: Web Virtualization Privacy Explain how you intend for students to use the Course Handbook in the class and the Course Companion CD within the class and outside the class.   Explain that during the lecture, the students can refer to the Course Handbook as it contains all the critical technical information they need in a crisp, tightly-focused format, which is just right for effective in-class learning experience. Mention that this format will maintain the student’s undivided attention in the class. Mention that the content on the CD supplementing the Course Handbook provides an opportunity for extended self-oriented learning beyond the classroom. Mention that that they can refer to the digital content on the companion CD during the lab time, during breaks, and whenever you feel appropriate. As a recommendation, it is preferred that the students do not refer to the CD content during the lecture time. This will again help maintain the student’s undivided attention in the class. Windows Server 2008 unified Web publishing platform of Microsoft including IIS 7.0, ASP. NET, Windows Communication Foundation, and Windows Sharepoint Services. Explain the class hours, extended building hours for labs, parking, restroom location, meals, phones, message posting, and where smoking is or is not allowed. Let students know if your facility has Internet access that is available for them to use during class breaks. Describe the audience and the prerequisites for this course. This is an opportunity for you to identify students who may not have the appropriate background or experience to attend this course. Describe the course objectives.

Terminal Services Web Access allows user to access the Internet more flexible via Web browsers and use programs existing on a terminal server. Terminal Services Gateway allows user to access to remote desktop and remote application via HTTPS protocol along firewall. Briefly describe each module and what students will learn. Be careful not to go into too much detail because the course is introduced in detail in Module 1. Explain how this course will meet students’ expectations by relating the information that is covered in individual modules to their expectations.

RODC manages a copy of database(read-only) of Active Directory. Briefly describe each module and what students will learn. Be careful not to go into too much detail because the course is introduced in detail in Module 1. Explain how this course will meet students’ expectations by relating the information that is covered in individual modules to their expectations. 14

By using the new Validate Tool in the automatically failover groups, you can perform tests to determine your system, storage and network configuration. Install, converse and manage tasks easier.

16 Course 6419A Module 3: Introduce many new features and technology of Windows server 2008 Module 0: Introduction Many other new features in Windows Server 2008: Server Manager Advanced Event Viewer Server Core VPN supporting SSTP protocol(Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol) FTP is more secure with SSL (Secure Socket Layer) Federated Rights Management PowerShell Windows Deployment Services Tell students that they will be using Microsoft Virtual Server to perform the labs. Describe the virtual machine lab environment. Briefly describe the names and roles of the virtual machines that students will be using for the lab exercises. Explain that the course files (lab files required for performing the labs) are located in the folder E:\ModXX\Labfiles within the virtual machines. Explain that all student computers have the same configurations.

Windows Server 2008 has many advantages in 3 areas: Web, Virtualization, Privacy with advanced new features such as IIS 7.0(Web), Hyper-V, Terminal Services(Virtualization), Failover Clustering, Network Access Protection (Privacy)….. 17 17
