1 1 CORINTHIANS 13 Spiritual Gifts and Love
15 August 2010

2 1 Corinthians 12:31 31But eagerly desire the greater gifts
1 Corinthians 12:31 31But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way. 1 Corinthians 14:1 1Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy.

3 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 4Love is patient, love is kind
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

5 1 Corinthians 13:8-12 8Love never fails
1 Corinthians 13:8-12 8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

6 1 Corinthians 13:13 13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love
1 Corinthians 13:13 13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

7 Matthew 5: But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?”

8 Philippians 2:3-8 3Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, 7but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!

9 Matthew 18:35 35“This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

10 Isaiah 43:25 25I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.
