1. Gathering Point Three

2. In our first ‘Gathering point’ we thought about what LOVE means and we started to think about the question “who is my brother?” and how when I love my brother I am loving God. Our second gathering point gave us the chance to reflect upon more of the Pope’s teaching about Caritas and to consider the ways in which we can respond to God’s love in our lives. Today we will learn what Scripture teaches us about love and deepen our understanding of how we can put God’s love into practice.

3. In this our third gathering point we will reflect upon the impact of our learning and witness so far.

9. Starter Questions... Why do you think that we will always need love? “there will never be a time where the charity of each individual Christian is unnecessary” How have you shown charity (caritas) in the last week? How do the Sacraments sustain and nourish us in our love for God and others?

11. Let us listen to the words of scripture. A reading from Acts of the Apostles

12. All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus.

13. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For, from time to time, those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

15. If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

16. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

17. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears.

18. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
