FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT STAR Reading and Math: Used as a formative assessment in reading and math in all elementary and middle schools in Madison City (and in 9th and 10th grades) to show growth in proficiency. Our expectation is that instruction provided at each grade level should ensure at least one grade level growth in students’ academic performance. Students take these tests at the beginning of the year and at the end of each nine weeks. Formative: ongoing assessment used by the teacher during the learning process to make changes to teaching and learning activities to improve student attainment of current skills
5
SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT Reading & Math ASPIRE: Given at the end of the school year. The test will be online with both multiple choice and open-ended response questions. Science ASPIRE: The science assessment is given to students in 5th and 7th grades. Summative: assessment that is evaluative and given at the end of a grading period, semester, school year to measure student academic performance against a pre-set benchmark.
