Step 2 Reading travel leaflets Step 1 Read the travel leaflets below to get some information for your trip. Hunan Province Adventure Days 1&2 Enjoy nature at Mount Heng, near Hengyang, and spend the day climbing to the top of the mountain. Take a night train to Fenghuang to view a tradition way of life. See the home of Shen Congwen, a modern Chinese writer. Day Travel by bus to Zhangjiajie. Go white-water rafting on the Mengdong River. For almost 50 kilometers your eyes will be filled with the wonders of nature. Day Travel to the top of Mount Tianzi. See the splendid sight of the high mountains rising up through the clouds. 4 Explore Shandong Province
Day Explore Ji’nan, known as ‘the City of Springs’. See the famous Baotu Spring and Daming Lake. Then visit the Yellow River. Days 2& Take a bus to Tai’an and climb Mount Tai. Spend the night at South Heaven Gate. Watch the beautiful sunrise on the mountaintop early the next morning. Visit Dai Temple at the foot of the mountain. Relax a little bit at a teahouse. Take a bus to Qufu, where Confucius was buried. Day 4

Learn how to get information from travel leaflets Step 2 Read the travel leaflets carefully and fill in the blanks. Travel Plan 1 Destinations: Mount Heng, Fenghuang, and Zhangjiajie Days 1&2: Enjoy nature at Mount Heng, near Hengyang, and spend the day climbing the mountain. Take a (1) to Fenghuang, an ancient mountain town built during the early Qing Dynasty. See the home of Shen Congwen, a (2) who wrote about life in the countryside of Hunan. 8 Say something about your trip:
First, choose a holiday destination from the two travel leaflets. Second, write down your questions in the form below, using question words. ◆Type of holiday (active, adventurous, etc.) → What type of holiday do you prefer? ◆ Cost → ◆ Places to visit → ◆ Dates (between January and July) ◆ Length of time → How much money will you spend? Where do you want to go and what do you want to see? When do you want to go travelling? How long do you want to spend on your holiday? Finally, work in pairs as the child and mother to ask and answer the questions.

... Shandong Province because none of us has ever been there before. If we go, we’ll have an active holiday climbing Mount Taishan. Even if there won’t be any river cruises, Mum can explore famous lakes and springs in Ji’nan. We can also visit Qufu, the birthplace of Confucius. I think she’d like this. We can travel in May, between the 1st and 7th. The trip lasts 4 days and 3 nights. It costs only 1,300 yuan per person, so Mum will be pleased with that.
