1 “Comment tu te sens?” progression
This slideshow provides an example of how my Novice learners (7th grade) and I “talk” about how we feel each day Each class is different so the pace and the order of the moods I introduce change with every class. I am not a robot! I go SLOW I react to what the students are “saying”. I am interested! “Pauvre Max”, “Désolée”, “C’est la vie !” “Super”, etc. I don’t force output I don’t worry about adjective agreement. I simply model as I speak “Oh ! Tu te sens heureux John. Super ! Et toi Annie, est-ce que tu te sens heureuse ?”  [Check the notes below the slides for further info]

Aujourd’hui, je me sens coupable (point and gesture) Si tu te sens heureux, ris! Si tu te sens triste, pleure! Si tu te sens hystérique, ris hystériquement! Si tu te sens extatique, danse! Etc.

Beyond Day 20 when I feel they are ready Students conduct a class poll and we tally the results to see what the general mood is today Also beyond Day 20 I will start providing input on simple “explanation” behind the moods. Examples: Je me sens extenuée parce que j’ai mal dormi… Qui se sent frustré parce qu’il y a un examen? Avni se sent extatique parce que c’est son anniversaire!!!! Kate se sent heureuse parce que c’est vendredi. Etc.
