1 Possessive Nouns

2 DAILY QUESTIONS How can I use possessive nouns to show ownership?
How can I decide when to use s’ or ‘s? How can I change collective nouns to show ownership?

3 POSSESSIVE NOUNS Possessive nouns show ownership.
The apostrophe indicates that a noun or group of nouns own something or a group of things.

4 SINGULAR POSSESSIVE Nouns
In the case of singular possessive nouns, ‘s shows that one noun owns something or a group of things. These could be other nouns, characteristics or ideas. Example: Wally’s squeak made the whole class laugh.

5 PLURAL POSSESSIVE NOUNS
In the case of plural possessive nouns, s’ shows that more than one noun owns others nouns, characteristics or ideas. Example: The students’ report cards were handed out during homeroom.

6 COLLECTIVE POSSESSIVE NOUNS
The collective words act as a singular noun because the group becomes one unit. Example: more than one goose  geese a traveling group of geese  a flock. Flock is the collective noun. It is singular because we are speaking of one group. We can put a/an in front of it.
